Alright Everyone, Air Hug It Out

The dishwasher won't stop complaining about being overworked and underpaid, the TV and the puzzle on your coffee table are competing for your attention, and your phone and its charger are developing separation anxiety. Being the Danny Tanner in a Full House is hard. What's even harder? Coping with the fact that you'll never look at inanimate objects the same when all this is over.

SWAYTAKE: IN THE WORDS OF OUR READERS

How ADHD Prepped Me for COVID Chaos

"Maintaining some sort of a routine amid distractions from kids, work or the constant news cycle is hard for anyone. But for people with ADHD, a routine is absolutely necessary — and we're used to fighting to create one, despite the ever-present chaos in our brains."

Whether you have the disorder or are just having trouble concentrating, one Sway reader has provided a few tips to help out.

FirstHealth Joins COVID Plasma Program

FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital is one of 2,115 sites across the country participating in the Mayo Clinic's program to collect plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients. This plasma, collected by OneBlood, could provide antibodies for those recently diagnosed — FirstHealth has performed three successful plasma transfusions thus far. See how it works.

Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife

A rabid fox bit an innocent pet owner in Pinehurst. Fifty-five-year-old Larry Demolet saw a pair of eyes staring back at him when he let his dog out on Saturday night — and the next thing he knew, a fox had sunk its teeth into his leg. Awesomely, Larry grabbed the 30-pound fox by the back of its neck and tossed it into a trashcan, where it was kept until it could be tested for rabies. Spoiler: the results were positive.

Larry is now enduring a round of shots, and advising his neighbors (near Rattlesnake Trail in Pinehurst) to keep an eye on their pets.

Businesses Join Forces for Online Marketplace

The Sunday Market began as a way to bring goods from brick and mortar businesses, online-only retailers and local artisans together under one roof. When shopping restrictions made that impossible, the market continued its mission online — encouraging a quarantined customer base to shop while sipping wine in their pjs.

"The entire community got behind each participating business, and I loved hearing feedback that vendors were blown away by support," said founder Lisa Zimmermann. "It really was an example of what can happen when we support each other."

The Online Sunday Market, now gearing up for its second installment, is just one example of how business is anything but usual. Read more here.

ACTION SHOT COURTESY OF LOCAL BURPEE MASTER CHELSEA ESPE

Earn Your Weekend Takeout Binge

What bonds the Crossfit community more than voluntary pain and suffering? Southern Pines Crossfit knows it's the opportunity to support local restaurants with the cheat meal to end all cheat meals.

This Saturday, join The Burpee Hour — a free, friendly and brutal competition to see, yes, how many burpees you can do in the span of an hour. Post your results and your chosen reward meal with #theburpeehour or #burpeesfortakeout and see how you stack up.

P.S.: The scoreboard is currently being led by some Richard in Scotland, who claims to have done 791. We're not worthy. But also, he's lying.

We Made the Perfect Marg

Chloe’s Coconut Marg, to be exact. In response to last week's solicitation for cocktail recipes, Chloe Wasch submitted this recipe she says her friends can't get enough of. Your secret is out, Chloe — and this marg is dangerously good.

Combine and shake vigorously:

  • 2 oz 1800 Coconut Tequila (we found this at ABC in Aberdeen)
  • Squeeze of agave sugar (we got ours at Harris Teeter)
  • Juice of two fresh limes
  • Optional: Add pineapple you've blended to make a purée. (We went heavy on this)

Then: Top with Coconut La Croix or a sparkling water of your choice. Cheers.

Oh, and: Chloe, you've won a growler of Reverie Cocktails. Reply for deets.

We Know You're Someone's Type

Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.: Roll up your sleeves at Our Saviour Lutheran. The Southern Pines church is hosting a blood drive through One Blood, an organization that partners with several banks and healthcare centers. There are still some late afternoon spots available. Sign up here.

Help Locals Support Locals

The Sandhills / Moore Coalition for Human Care is fielding requests for food and funds from many local residents who are out of work, many for the first time — and with resale shops closed and fundraisers cancelled, the coalition needs monetary donations to help sustain its efforts. More here.

That's It Until Monday.

Your homework: Think about a mom you know — your mom, a friend's mom, an adoptive mom, your kids' mom, or a mom friend that deserves a shoutout. Then hit reply and tell us about her. We're looking for stories of moms of all kinds for next week's issues. Oh and we like photos, too.
