We originally started the EATS Rosyth project to build community. So we have been missing you and our usual times we spend together in the garden, the orchard, the classroom and the community hub.

Many changes have been happening, so we wanted to give you an update of what we've been up to recently..

Easy Eats meal kits

We are very excited to announce our new Easy Eats meal kits!

Each meal kit includes a recipe card and all the ingredients for you to make a simple meal. It serves 4 people, or 4 portions if you want to split and freeze.

Our first recipe was for Easy Pilaf. If you would like to make it yourself, you can download the recipe card and watch our how to video on our YouTube channel.

Delivering emergency crisis food parcels

Sadly our community hub is closed to the public for now. However our Food team have been super busy redesigning our service to meet local needs at this time of crisis.

We have been delivering emergency crisis food parcels locally working with our referral partners to reach those who need them. Thanks to a successful bid to The National Lottery for ‘Supporting Communities’ funding we are now able to deliver food parcels and additional support to a wider area, now covering:

Rosyth & Inverkeithing

North Queensferry

Aberdour

Dalgety Bay

Limekilns

Charlestown

Pattiesmuir

Crombie

and now able to give additional support to help our partners operating in West Fife Villages.

We are very grateful for the ‘Supporting Communities’ funding as it will help us reach more people and provide a more comprehensive service.

We are working extremely carefully and managing risk as much as possible. We are very thankful to Fife Council for allowing us use of Camdean Community Centre, to give us the space to work at safe social distance from each other.

We do not want to send volunteers out and about unless absolutely necessary, so please only use this emergency service if you have no friends or family nearby to help you. If you received a Government letter and need help to register for a shielded food box call the Fife Covid Helpline on 0800 952 0330

We do recognise that many homes are struggling financially and we may be able to provide food and direct you to other support services.

Our thanks

Thank you to local food businesses who are donating surplus food to enable us to deliver this emergency crisis service, continuing our usual ethos of #FeedBelliesNotBins. Thank you to Foundation Scotland for awarding us a grant from their new Response, Recovery and Resilience Fund. Thank you to Aga from Bags of Love and her team of volunteers, who have been very generously making and donating lovely fabric bags for our food deliveries.

Huge huge THANK YOU to our volunteers who are continuing to dedicate their time to their community. So far you have helped over 500 vulnerable people locally! 🤩

Can we have your help please?

Many thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help us with our crisis service, we are trying to keep our team to a minimum to reduce risk but meantime please join as a member so we can demonstrate the support we have for our project! It is free to join as a member and you just need to complete this short form asking for your name, email and address. You don't even have to live in Rosyth!

In the meantime if you would like to volunteer in other local projects please consider signing up with Fife Voluntary Action Helping Hands scheme as we may look to them to help recruit more help in the near future.

We would also be grateful if you would like to make a donation to help us deliver our crisis food provision service. Even just a few pounds will help us get emergency food to someone vulnerable. We can also provide you with bank details if you’d prefer to donate by bank transfer.

Community garden and orchard

Our volunteers sowed lots of seeds back in February and March and these have developed into fine seedlings which are now ready for potting up.

Sadly our community garden and orchard are closed just now. So our gardeners have been putting the seedlings outside our community hub at the old Post Office in Aberlour Street.

You can pot them up or plant them outdoors - but do remember to check the forecast for frosty nights, when they will need some protection

Our Honey Bees

Quite a few of you have been concerned about our honey bees. Don't worry! They are being well looked after and have been loving getting out in the beautiful weather we've been having.

Swarming season. Do not disturb swarming bees. Leave them alone and they will leave after a few days.

Our honey bees have their own Facebook page and have even posted some videos for you there.
