Greetings Spinners,

Hats off to Jeff Johnson on his # ? B-Day when he and a couple buddies "pulled" him 70+ miles to Lake Geneva & back before the weather hit. Call them "Riders before the Storm" featuring Carl up front, Larry & the "Birthday Boy". Not pictured is Stephen Wadle who rode with the group and took the photo.

Well, if the NBA, NFL & the NHL can go back in history so can we, so here is an email from 2012 (before Mail Chimp & the Beloit Bicycle Co.) talking about our Tuesday riding group...

Subject: Tues Ride

Greetings Spinners,

Last week a hard core group of about 12 cyclists waited about 1/2 hr before starting the ride to let a quick "lightning storm" pass by.  Those on carbon fiber bikes were thinking about going out in the storm but they were reminded that there were still small pieces of metal in their components so they waited along with the steel/aluminum/titanium riders.

There are several new members on the e-mail list so it bears repeating that we start at 5:30pm sharp in the parking lot behind Paddle & Trail which is located 110 W. Grand in Beloit.  Although it is not a requirement we encourage all riders to wear helmets because we really don't want any organ donors in the group.  We have 4 levels of cyclists:

Hammers    Avg   Speed   18+ mph

Rabbits       Avg   Speed   15-17 mph

Cruisers      Avg   Speed   12-14 mph

Rec Riders  Avg   Speed   12 mph or less

Most rides go for about 20-30 miles and take over 1hr to complete and we try and pick a route with the wind behind us on the way back.  Even within the groups above there can be "separation" when going out on these rides so it is critical that if one person is falling behind that there be another person joining him/her.  Also it makes sense that you bring your cell phone or if you don't have one or forget yours, stick with someone who has one.  With the sun setting later some of the rides might go a little long so be prepared for that.

Once again, if someone wants to be removed from this list please let me know and we can do that.  All levels of riders are encouraged to participate because there is leadership (people who know the routes) in every group.

Hope to see y'all on Tuesday...weather looks good according to the Internet.

LiteSpeed Rick

Here is the new website for Wisconsin Bike Fed that lists many of the rides planned for this season. It remains to be seen how many will be occurring but at least they are on the calendar.
