Pence forgoes mask at Mayo Clinic, defying protocol 

  • While visiting the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to learn about the new coronavirus testing “moonshot,” Vice President Mike Pence broke pandemic protocol by going without a mask
  • It is the policy of hospitals and the US government for people to wear face coverings in public spaces. Pence, who heads the White House coronavirus taskforce, cited the fact that he is tested regularly for coronavirus as a reason not to wear a mask

Brazil’s supreme court gives go ahead for investigation of Bolsonaro 

  • Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will be under investigation for alleged corruption and obstruction of justice after he was accused of trying to interfere with police probes 
  • The accusations come from the former justice minister, Sèrgion Moro, who resigned last week
  • The investigation, authorized on Monday by Supreme Federal Court Justice José Celso de Mello Filho, will last 60 days

Hillary Clinton endorses Biden for president 

  • 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton endorsed Joe Biden for president on Tuesday, asking “what would it mean if we had a real president, not just somebody who plays one on TV”
  • Over the past few days, Biden has also seen endorsements from leading politicians like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Pramila Jayapal

TECH 📱

iPhone 12 release delayed 

  • Mass production of the new iPhone will be pushed back about a month 
  • The delay is a direct result of the coronavirus outbreak, which has severely disrupted manufacturing across Asia and debilitated the global consumer demand

BUSINESS 💰

Trump plans to make meat processing plants stay open 

  • As President Trump has expressed concern about meat shortages during the coronavirus pandemic, he is expected to declare meat plants a “critical infrastructure”
  • He will likely also issue an executive order shielding plants from legal liability for sick employees
  • Over 4,400 meatpacking workers have tested positive for COVID-19, with cases reported in at least 80 plants across 26 states

HEALTH 💉

UK doctor warns that COVID-19 may be linked to rare syndrome in children 

  • The National Health Service (NHS) alerted doctors of an increase in cases of “multisystem inflammatory” disease in children that shows similar symptoms to toxic shock syndrome and Kawasaki disease
  • It is speculated that there may be a link between these cases and the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak
  • Multisystem inflammatory disease is still very rare, as is serious illness related to COVID-19 in children
