Message from the Newsbrief Editor
Hi all

Some of the activities that are currently running are

  • Alphabet armchair travel image sharing online (like APS on Facebook)
  • Online presentations between members
  • Image challenges - online

If you have any hints or tips for members to try while everyone is self-isolating.

Please send them through to share.

Stay safe.

VAPS Information
Interclub News

Several changes to the VAPS Interclub upload system have been made over the last few months that took a lot of testing to get it right.
  • As we have lost the facility to copy award winning prints for the catalogue all Clubs must upload digital copies of print images. This includes representative images of any AVs submitted.
  • In the event that a camera manufacturer again offers a prize for the best image taken with their brand of camera all members should include EXIF Metadata (specifically camera type) with their images. Missing EXIF Metadata will not affect the Interclub entry but will affect the chance of getting that prize.
  • The Interclub upload system also now has the facility for clubs to complete the AV ID Information and application form online.
  • Clubs are asked to use Wetransfer or Dropbox to send the AVs to interclub@vaps.org.au instead of including a flash drive (memory stick) with the print bags.
  • All club logins older than 12 months will be removed. If you have to create a new login please ensure that you include the club name in your login ID. Club names should not be abbreviated, for example, to CCC for Casey Camera Club as we have several clubs that have similar abbreviations. The word “Casey” would be adequate or Casey CC. in 2021 we will remove all logins that do not have the club name in the Login ID.
  • Titles longer than 30 characters will be rejected by the upload system
  • Titles can only have letters, numbers and spaces. No special characters or punctuation marks will be accepted.

VAPS Interclub
VAPS Website
The new website is now live.
https://vaps.org.au/

Please explore the site so that you become familiar with it. We have tried to make it user friendly. The development of the site is an ongoing process and as we find issues will update them.

Some areas of the site require a login. These areas are used by relevant members of your club committee.
  • Uploading club member images to the club gallery
  • Annual Club Affiliation (membership renewal)
  • Application for Year Bars and Awards
  • Club contact details
  • Victoria Judges list - for use by your competition steward
So if you can't login, please don't contact us as it is more than likely that your club committee has not given you login details as you don't require them.

Regards
Alfred

APJA - Judges Association
At this time due to Covid, APJA has cancelled, Level 5 training (22nd Mar), Image Evaluation Part 1 (19th April), Level 1 (17th May) and Image Evaluation Part 2 (19th June) as well as postponed our AGM, scheduled for 19th July.  We will reschedule the AGM on a future date, possibly as an online meeting.

We are uncertain about events scheduled after July at this stage. It is possible that membership of APJA will be rolled over into 2021. Ie, anyone that is a member at June 30, 2020 would remain a member till June 30, 2021.

In the meantime we are looking at ways that we can develop online learning events and material especially to help members from rural clubs.

It certainly has been a difficult time for clubs and judging.
Best wishes to all

Ballarat Camera Club
Vale - Enid Daniell
It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Enid Daniell. Enid was the wife of Kerry, long-standing member of the Ballarat Camera Club and a great contributor to the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies (VAPS) over the years.

The Daniells lived in Golden Point, Ballarat, for many years. Kerry was treasurer for the VAPS convention and Enid his loyal assistant. Here Enid was assistant treasurer from the 1995 Convention at Warrnambool to the Convention at Ballarat in 2003. After that, she and Kerry handled registrations at the Convention from 2004 (in Ballarat) to the Convention (at Clunes) in 2007. I well remember reporting to the registration desk at a Convention to be greeted by the warm Enid.

Also I remember many VAPS committee meetings being held at their house in Golden Point. We always enjoyed the hospitality (and the smorgasbord meal). Enid was certainly a great contributor over many years to the photographic movement in Victoria.

Enid was a warm and friendly person who, unfortunately, did not enjoy such good health in her later years. She will be sorely missed.

Alan Wilson
