Guidance and City Solidarity: Local Governments in Asia and the Pacific Region in Facing the COVID-19
ON 11 March 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared a global pandemic due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak as the number of confirmed cases surpassed 200,000 worldwide. Since then, COVID-19 has spread out to more than 200 countries causing deaths of 200,000 people (as of 25 April 2020). The spread of COVID-19 has been affecting many people and cities around the world. Local governments are in the front line and responsible for coordinating their community's response to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. UCLG ASPAC has taken the initiative to continue connecting cities for insights to tackle the challenge and facilitate city solidarity in difficult times. Click

Inputs to Chair's Statement for the 7th APFSD
07 April 2020 | BANGKOK – Entering the last decade to meet the 2030 Agenda, every effort is made to ensure cities are able to reach the target. The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) has played an important role in contributing inputs to the High-Level Political Forum where intensive discussion and monitoring of SDGs accomplishment is conducted. With the remaining ten years and cities facing a global health challenge with massive impact on economy, a series of discussions to prepare for the 7th APFSD, scheduled on 20 May 2020 through video conferencing back-to-back with the 76th Session of the Commission, took place virtually. Appointed as the Southeast Asia Secretariat of Global Covenant of Mayor (GCoM), UCLG ASPAC has committed to support cities and optimise their capacity to respond to this global issue under the framework of IUC Asia Programme supported by the European Union (EU). Rolling Stores: A Local Government Initiative during the COVID-19 Pandemic
IN attaining sustainable urban development, taking local initiatives is imperative. The urgency is on the highest level now as cities are currently faced with global challenge that threatens the lives of local people. In the Philippines, several national-level measures have been implemented to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Among these are the prohibition of mass gatherings and suspension of mass public transportation. Only a limited number of private establishments that provide and manufacture food and medicine, banks, power, energy, water, and telecommunications supplies and facilities remain open. Click

Indonesia Local Initiatives in Combating Global Pandemic
THE Corona Virus Disease or COVID-19 has globally shifted and changed the development agenda around the world where governments and people put their best effort to find solutions to end this pandemic and prepare for recovery. Local governments, as front-liner of development, are forced to adapt rapidly. Local governments in Indonesia, in parallel with many policies established to reduce further spread of the infection, have come up with various local initiatives to fight the virus and to address the economic impact caused by the pandemic.
