This year has started as a very particular year (describing it with the best possible words in mind) but it is not finished yet, we are still here, and finally we are open and are looking forward to welcoming you! 


Summer is (almost) here, and we at Hotel Loveno want to help you enjoy it at its fullest through some fun activities!

Cooking recipes: learn how to make Insalata di Riso (Rice salad) with us!


For Summer here at Hotel Loveno we have decided to offer our “famous” recipes teaching you one of the easiest and most eaten dishes of the season: Insalata di Riso!
Cook the rice: boil some salted water in a large saucepan and when it boils, lower the rice, then drain it al dente and place it in a large container with a spoonful of oil to prevent it from becoming sticky. 
 
In the meantime, take care of the seasoning: wash the peppers, remove the stalks, seeds and internal filaments, cut them first into strips and then into cubes and place them in a large bowl where you will collect all the other ingredients.

Wash and cut the tomatoes in half, dig out the pulp with a teaspoon and cut them into cubes. Cut the cooked ham into cubes. Also, make cubes from the caciocavallo cheese and cut the pickled gherkins and pitted olives into rounds.
When about 2-3 minutes have elapsed from cooking, drain the rice and let it cool by distributing it on a very cold tray (previously stored in the fridge) so as to facilitate the cooling of the rice.

Flavour the seasoning with the chives cut into small slices 16, add the peas and rice that will have cooled in the meantime. To finish, add the crumbled tuna fillets and cooked ham, season with salt and stir with a spoon 19. Cover the bowl with the film 20 and leave it in the refrigerator until it is served so it will be very cold and the flavours will have blended.  

STORAGE
You can store the rice salad in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2-3 days. You can only freeze the rice salad if you have used fresh ingredients.

TIP
To make the classic rice salad even tastier you can season it with a spoonful of mayonnaise or balsamic vinegar. As an alternative to caciocavallo cheese, you can use other cheeses with similar consistency such as Asiago, Edamer or Groviera; mozzarella instead is not suitable because it would release too much moisture.

 
Let’s go to the beach! Lake Como has many beautiful beaches where you can enjoy the sun or go for a swim. 
Menaggio - just a 15-minute-walk from the Hotel in the town centre of Menaggio with its Lungolago. Here it is possible to enjoy the beach and, for the most adventurous, even hire a kayak. And just 2 minutes outside of the main township, walking towards Nobiallo, Spiaggia Lerai offers beautiful scenic views of the Lake.
A bit further from Hotel Loveno, but just as easily reachable by car are also the beaches in Lenno, Griante, Cadenabbia and Argegno and many more.
Lake Como is also ideal for those who can’t sit still and love the sport.
It is in fact very famous for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing, which the towns and beaches of
Colico and Gera Lario are very well-known for, and sailing practised Lake-wide but especially in Cremia.


       

Rock climbing has also become very popular lately, and Falesia Menaggio, very close to Hotel Loveno, is probably the best spot where to practice it.
