First of all, we would like to thank you for your donations to the EU staff COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Together, we have already raised over €150,000. Below, you will find some information on the projects your continued donations are supporting.

If you have not already set up a monthly donation, you can now do so here (by card). If you prefer to arrange a direct debit through your bank, you can find the details here. We suggest a monthly donation of 2% of your salary, but any amount will be most welcome!

David O'Sullivan joins Management Committee as Chair

David O’Sullivan, the recently retired EU Ambassador to the US, who was previously Head of the EEAS and Secretary General of the Commission. O'Sullivan, who joined the Committee as Chair, said:
"I greatly welcome the initiative to set up a fund for EU officials to be able to contribute directly to support local projects in regions of Europe struggling to cope with the COVID crisis. This demonstrates the sincere commitment of European public servants to show practical solidarity with people directly affected by this horrible virus.

In particular, the decision to work with the network of the King Baudouin Foundation ensures the quality of the projects to be funded and facilitates the rapid disbursement of the funds to people in need while ensuring a certain visibility of the effort.

I am honoured to be able to play my small part by chairing the Management Committee."

Cooperativa Sociale La Comunità

One of our latest donations was €10,000 to Società Cooperativa La Comunità, which is based in Genoa, Italy.

Our donation will help 75 vulnerable families with mental health support, food donations and free medicine as well as providing a temporary home for children who cannot stay with their families during the quarantine period.

EMERGENCY using Ebola expertise in Italy

"When a patient recovers, I get the energy to help those who are still struggling."
One of our first donations was €25,000 to EMERGENCY. This organisation is using expertise gained while working to help with the Ebola crisis to provide a preventive triage service for suspected COVID-19 cases in various Italian cities.

In addition, their response includes giving health information over the phone and monitoring patients, organising shuttle services for migrants to access healthcare and producing material to raise awareness and to educate people on the risks of the virus.

One of the nurses taking part in this effort in Bergamo is Mirjana. Read her story in la Repubblica (in Italian).
