“Aerial Dance is hard like life is hard. It's exhilarating and gratifying like life can be, too. We can't think of a more authentic art form to echo the human condition—all you need is one bodily vessel and a seriously open mind. OK, a leotard helps, too.”
— Ninette Paloma, the Santa Barbara Centre for Aerial Dance
This week’s Ask Me Anything guest is Ninette Paloma. Ninette is the Artistic Director of the Santa Barbara Centre for Aerial Dance (SBCAD), and a contributing writer for the Santa Barbara Independent, Santa Barbara Magazine, and Santa Barbara Danceworks, and the author of The Beautiful Month. The Centre for Aerial Dance is a Company in Residence at the Community Arts Workshop.

Over the past fourteen years, the SBCAD has developed a uniquely inspiring movement style and a rich teaching tradition. As Ninette says, “We're working to encourage strong, hardworking, confident, emotionally intelligent, and artistically aware human beings that move through their every day with chins higher and shoulders more defined.”

Ninette’s writing relishes the sensuous—delicious food, complex wine, art—delving into and dancing with the complexities of culture and human beings. Her choreography and teaching combine rigor and wonder.

We’re excited to talk to Ninette about founding and growing her company, the relationship between being a writer, dancer, choreographer, teacher, and business-owner, and how those roles interact. We hope to field questions on running a business, cultivating an artistic practice, and adapting to change, among many others. Please submit questions via our Facebook and Instagram feeds, or by e-mailing hello@sbcaw.org, or ask them live in the comments doing the show!

Tune in this coming Thursday, May 14th, at 4pm, for our happy hour free-flowing interview with Ninette at facebook.com/sbcaw/live. We hope you’ll submit questions ahead of time as well via our Facebook and Instagram feeds, or by e-mailing hello@sbcaw.org.
