The Florey
Dear <<First name>>,

Life has changed quickly and in unimaginable ways since we last spoke. I hope that my message finds you and your loved ones well both physically and mentally.

<<First name>>, in these testing times, I wanted to take a few minutes to share some hope and inspiration with you because although we are living in challenging times, there is promising research happening as we speak.

I’m pleased to let you know that Florey researchers are collaborating behind the scenes with institutes in Melbourne’s biomedical precinct to find possible treatments for COVID-19. <<First name>>, thanks to your contributions, Florey researchers are today part of the global effort to beat the pandemic happening right here in Victoria.

I also hope you’ll be happy to hear that most of our labs in Parkville and Heidelberg are operating albeit under tight new rules, regulations and restrictions. Our clinical trials are also continuing to find treatments for patients. <<First name>>, this is all thanks to you. Your gifts over the last year have enabled researchers to carry on with their projects despite the disruption caused by the virus. Thank you.

<<First name>>, COVID-19 has irreversibly changed the way we talk and feel about mental health. Across the country people of all ages are facing new challenges. As Australians adapt to unprecedented distancing measures some people may be experiencing heightened feelings of loneliness, anxiety or stress. While this is a major concern, we have reasons to be optimistic as our community starts to have constructive and supportive conversations about well-being and the importance of mental health.

I am including a personal message from Doctor Thibault Renoir. As the Head of our Genes, Environment and Behaviour Laboratory, Dr Renoir is a world-leading expert in mental health. He has good news to share with you about advances taking place at the Florey in depression and anxiety.
Click here to meet Thibault Renoir also known as: Tibo, husband, dad, bass player, PhD supervisor, home schooling expert, and, most importantly, Head of Genes Environment and Behaviour Laboratory at the Florey
<<First name>>, I cannot urge you strongly enough to follow the guidelines our government and authorities have put in place to keep us all safe during the COVID-19 situation. While I encourage you to practice physical distancing, please don’t distance yourself socially. Stay connected with us on social media or by calling our fundraising staff on 1800-063-693, they would love to hear from you! Stay in regular contact with your family and friends. And please, speak to your GP if you are concerned about your mental health.

I feel inspired by your hope and your passion, and know that together with your support, we can be more resilient, and we will find the cures.

Warmest wishes,

Steve
