Niwot Elementary

Week of May 10, 2020

Principal Corner:

Niwot Elementary Families,

Happy Sunday!

Happy Mother's Day to all of our amazing Niwot Elementary moms.  You deserve this day like none other--I hope it was a special one!

Thank you to everyone for helping our teachers celebrate a great Teacher Appreciation Week! We also celebrate YOU, and all of your hard work helping learning online happen at home.

As we enter the final two weeks of school for the 2019-2020 school year, we need to think of this time like running a marathon. We are in the final stretch, but the hard work isn't finished quite yet. "The final stretch of your first marathon is where the magic happens." (Michael D'Aulerio) Please keep encouraging your children to work hard and stay engaged in learning.

Thank you for your continued support. Please let us know how we can support you.

Stay Well, Be Safe, and Stay Strong!

~~Nancy Pitz, Principal
A Video Message from Mrs. Pitz
THANK YOU to all of our students and families who contributed to the Teacher Appreciation Video. Our teachers absolutely loved it!
Student Belongings may be picked up the week of June 8th-12th. Please see this link for additional important information regarding pick-up.
Yearbook Delivery

If you have ordered a yearbook, they will be delivered to the school and added to your child's belongings for pick-up June 8th-12th. If you missed the order deadline, you can still order online at Treering. You will need to enter the school passcode above, and will pay an additional charge for home delivery later in the summer.
A message from Marianne Martinez, School Nurse, and Diane Happe, Health Clerk

As many of you know, we typically ask you to pick up and sign for medications before or on the last day of school every year. This year, it is not mandatory that you pick up these medications. There are two options.

 We can keep them locked up in the health room until school begins, OR
 We can place medications with your child's belongings for pick-up in June.

Please email Diane Happe or Mrs. Pitz before May 22nd with your choice, otherwise, these medications will remain locked in the office until school begins. If you choose to pick-up your child's medications, there will be a copy of the medication log attached to your child's bag to sign and return at pick-up.

Additional Notes of Importance:
1. Since we do not know at this point when doctor’s offices will be open for well child visits, we won’t be sending out health care plans and permission to medicate forms for next year as we usually do in May. This will be done in early August.
2. It is important for children to receive vaccinations to prevent vaccine preventable diseases as soon as doctor’s offices and health centers open.
3. The state of Colorado requires all incoming 6th graders to obtain a T-dap vaccine. Parents will need to make an appointment soon for this vaccination if you haven't already.
Join Principal Pitz for the Read-Aloud on Friday, May 15th on Webex.

She will be reading to Preschool-2nd grades at 1:00pm and 3rd-5th grades at 2:00pm.

You can join the Read-Aloud at this link. Be sure to use your real name when you sign in.

Does your child thrive in situations where thinking, solving, collaborating, and brainstorming are the norm? Innovation Academy is an exciting summer program in partnership with IBM and taught by St. Vrain Valley School District educators, IBM Volunteers, and other SVVSD High School Students.  This program has brought Design Thinking and Real-World Problem Solving to St Vrain students for the past nine years.

This is the first time that the program will be held online and will be open to all elementary students throughout SVVSD without a nomination.  If your child is completing kindergarten through 5th grade this May, they are eligible to enroll.  Wondering if this is a good fit for your child?  Does your child display the following characteristics on a regular basis?  See the attached flyer or go straight to the WEBSITE to read more about IAO and enroll your child for an exciting summer opportunity. Registration opens May 1!

For the past ten years, SVVSD and IBM have partnered to provide rich and engaging learning opportunities for our youngest learners to solve real-world problems. Innovation Academy is a summer opportunity for SVVSD students and their families to engage in design thinking and innovation at home. In this online forum, we highlight the following principles and share empowering lessons for which our face-to-face summer program is known.

Hi Niwot families!  Next week we will be offering our second (and last)  "Color with the Counselor" for Kinder, 1st, and 2nd. Please refer to this document for specific times. Also, in that document you will find social emotional learning activities for your kids, and resources for adults as well. Celebrating student success is an important aspect of the school experience and culture of the St. Vrain Valley Schools. Our school plans to recognize its students in a variety of ways, including photographs, recorded videos, or other forms of visual and/or written presentations or performances. These recordings may be posted to the District or school’s website and/or through District-approved social media and in some cases, will include student names. Your student may have an opportunity to be included in an organized online recognition presentation with their school.  This will require parent permission. To provide this permission, please log into your Infinite Campus portal account and follow these instructions.

If you are having difficulty accessing Infinite Campus, please send an email to our attendance clerk, Kathy Benning.
An Important Message Regarding Student/Teacher Video Chat Tools

We are excited that many of our teachers have been able to connect with students through Webex and other video chat tools. However, to protect the privacy of all students and families, we ask that you refrain from posting photos, screenshots, or recordings of these classroom experiences on social media.

In accordance with recommendations from the Governor's Office and our county health agency partners, all in-person (in building) instruction in St. Vrain, will be canceled for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The district will continue to implement its online learning in accordance with the district calendar.

The district will continue to update parents via the DISTRICT WEBSITE.
