The Webinars have a very practical focus on online teaching and are active online workshops where teachers have the opportunity to discuss possible tools, their merits, their uses, and how they work. With the decision around Level 2 and moving back into the classroom, we will focus on strategies to support you.

The following Webinars have already been organised and are available at the following Zoom meeting link:

This online workshop can be tailored to whatever aspects of NCEA you would like to work on together.
Please let Juliet know what you would like to cover in this workshop so she can make sure this is included.  Also, do pass this email and Zoom link onto anyone you think might be interested in taking part.
From reading the feedback from the NZALT surveys about what teachers of lea faka-Tonga would like to cover in the workshop we have understood that areas of interest include:

  • Using videos for posting content, and assessing speaking-speeches and interactions online
  • Online lessons for NCEA assessments and providing feedback online
  • Scaffolding writing activities for NCEA lea faka-Tonga writing portfolios
  • Templates for writing NCEA assessment tasks
  • Authenticity issues with online assessments
  • Shared platforms for resources
Please contact Juliet if you have any questions.

NZQA Updates

NCEA Listening External Assessments in 2020

Updated Assessment Specifications are available for the external standards that assess the understanding of a language through listening and responding to recorded passages.

These specifications now state, “This year in the digital format, candidates will listen to recordings in the same way as they would if completing the standard as a paper-based examination. A recording will be played aloud to all candidates at the same time.”

This statement replaces a previous message that audio would be embedded in examination software.

Please note that the date for International Languages Week has changed to 25 - 29 May to reflect the change to the term 2 dates for 2020 due to Covid-19 school closures.
NZALT is pleased to announce the following activities for students and schools to participate in which celebrate all of the languages taught in New Zealand.

The EPLC (Education Perfect Languages Champs) will take place from the 14th-21st May. This is always a vibrant, exciting event, and we look forward, as always, to seeing what NZ schools and students achieve. You are welcome to sign up additional students for the duration of this event for no extra charge.
We would love to share stories from you, our wonderful teachers, about what the EPLC means for you and your students. If you would like to share your story with us, we would love to receive short videos (30-60 seconds) from you so that these can be shared online. If you are keen to share your story, it would be great if you could send your video to support@educationperfect.com - you will go in the draw to win a $50 gift pay voucher.

We wish you all the best for this challenging time and want you to know that we are here to support you!
