We are fast approaching the middle of the year, and what a year 2020 has turned out to be!

I am sure you will agree the adaptation to the Zoom meetings has been amazing from an easy access point of view and the saving of time on travel. Thank you to our Executive members who have facilitated these weekly meetings; in particular our Vice President Donna Thistlethwaite and Secretary, Hayley Lingard.

As you are no doubt aware the AGM is to be held at our May monthly meeting and nominations have been received for all positions on the Executive.

You may have received a “renewal of membership” note over the past week. Please be aware the Chamber has been offering monthly membership for the renewal of fees. Do take advantage of this payment method, it is for your benefit.

The monthly fees are: $6.00 per month for a sole trader, $8.00 per month for a small business with up to 25 employees and $22.00 per month for corporate membership. It is the belief of the Executive that the monthly membership fee will assist those who may wish to opt for renewal on a monthly basis.

Your Hills and District Chamber Executive is made up of volunteers who gladly donate their time and expertise for the benefit of our members. The Executive has taken on an increased workload over the past few months and I want to put on record my thanks to everyone involved.

I look forward to speaking with you at the Zoom AGM in May; and also, when we can catch up with Face to Face meetings in the not too distant future.

Stay safe.
Mary

April was our very first Breakfast Meeting via Zoom - thank you to the almost 30 people who joined us! Julian Maher was our guest speaker, informing us how to be brave and take our social media to the next level by using video. You can check out the recording of this meeting in our Facebook Group. The very engaging Ingrid Moyle will be presenting on the 26th May from 7.30am and this meeting will also be our AGM.

Speaking of our AGM, nominations were received from the following - Mary Di Marco, Stuart Jaeschke, Brian Battersby, Donna Thistlewhaite, Hayley Lingard, John Hudson, Kate Hewish and Vanessa Petch.

Our Tuesday Check-In events are still happening so remember you can log in from 7.30am to 8.30am to keep connected and up to date.

Given the short time since our last newsletter there are no new members to report at this time and most Committees have slowed down, except for Brian and the Advocacy Committee which has been great to see - a huge thanks to Brian and his Committee for staying on top of some big issues at this time!  Hayley

There are less Covid-19 cases in Australia now, that’s proof working together it was achieved. And out of our isolation some of our values may change in time.

We thank: all Health Experts advice and all the efforts from those in the medical fields. Thanks to Federal, State and Local Elected Members for their $billions in various assistances and their unity in times of need.
  • Our Chamber is still working continuously on every option and co-operation to kickstart our Economy to get jobs back and incomes flowing again.
  • We Encourage Efforts to buy local and support more Aussie made goods
  • We’ve had success for a fairer balance via Queensland Government for Residential Tenants and their Landlords by levelling the scales, while still aiming for “no-forced evictions”.
  • The Queensland Government is to create a Small Business Commissioner to speed up dispute resolutions between Commercial Landlords and their Tenants.
  • On 1st May our Chamber joined with the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) and 30 other Regional Chambers for a letter to the Queensland Premier giving our Recovery Plan aspirations to Relieve Revive and Re-Build our Economy on behalf of the 400,000 Small & Medium Businesses across Queensland.

Great $ News on Thursday 7th May 2020
Queensland Government Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, announced that the Job Keeper Payments will now be exempt from the State Payrol Tax. This is a real win for Business across this state and this was one of the Major themes spearheaded by CCIQ & supported by Our Chamber.
