Welcome to our May newsletter!

General News

Welcome to our May Newsletter! I hope you are all well and safe. This month I would like to reach out to you all and say a simple thank you. As you can probably imagine, we were really worried about the safety and wellbeing of our supporters in the times of the pandemic. However, in the first few weeks of the lockdown, we have been in touch with most of you and received an overwhelming amount of support. All of you are safe, which is fantastic!

What's even more uplifting, is the news that you continue to support us. Some of you decided to move your physical activities indoors and complete your challenges at home. Others committed to completing their campaigns next year, but joined our Strava groups and continue to stay in touch through the app. We have seen fantastic virtual events organised in support of our work and Facebook Birthdays donated to us. We are very grateful for each and every one of you.

It's really amazing that we continue receiving your support, which is not just crucial for our work, but also extremely uplifting. Thank you for your honest, open and very moving stories. Thank you for your actions and for all your fantastic fundraising.

Liam McKinnon, Marketing, Communications & Digital Manager :
“You may have read some reports about JustGiving in the news recently in relation to the amazing Captain Tom Moore’s fundraising. We want to reassure you that as a charity we are totally satisfied and trusting in JustGiving’s set-up. We have expressed our public support for the JustGiving team and are grateful for the vital continued support and infrastructure they provide to charities such as OTR”.

Check out this well-balanced article in the Guardian on the topic here for more context.
Laura Brain, Team Leader (Engagement and Participation):
"As it is Mental Health Awareness Week next week (starting 18th May), we are going to focus on the act of kindness and the benefits to our mental health. We are going to have debates about the subject, start a 'Thank You' Campaign and create discuss how being kind to our environment can help us be mentally healthy too "

We would like to say a huge thank you to Ben who shared his moving story of grief with us on our blog this month. Ben has already raised over £2,000 for us riding 192 km for almost five hours on his turbo trainer at home last weekend. We remain humbled by actions, fundraising and moving, honest stories our supporters are willing to share with us and our young people. Thank you so much, Ben!
Check out our online shopping list, which has now moved to Amazon to make it easier for you to use. If you would like to provide OTR with any of these items, feel free to make a purchase or get in touch with me at sylwia@otrbristol.org.uk if you would like more info first.

Sophie, our volunteer, will keep the list updated during the year for you.

You can now also donate via Smile Amazon app on Android devices.
