Stage 2 of Governor Brad Little's plan to Reopen Idaho begins today. Stage 2 means that indoor gyms, hair salons, and other close contact services like spas and tattoo parlors can reopen. Restaurants can reopen their dining room after submitting a plan to the local health department. The Governor also announced that bars can open in Stage 3 on May 30th instead of waiting for Stage 4 on June 13th. If you are looking for more information about the reopening guidelines for businesses please visit the Idaho Rebound site.

The Eagle Business and Workforce Recovery Committee has been working diligently to support and promote our Eagle business community. They have been meeting twice a week for the last few weeks and has launched the "Eagle Strong: Open for Business" Campaign. Businesses can show their commitment to health and safety by pledging to follow the Idaho Rebounds protocols. Each business that pledges will receive a poster or window cling identifying their business reopening stage (Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 4) to display in their storefront. As a business owner, placing that poster or window cling in your front door or window will tell consumers that you are following the Governor's Stay Healthy Guidelines and Stages. For more information, visit the Eagle Strong Open for Business website. We also have an interactive map and business directory on our website to help customers find places to dine and shop. Businesses that have taken the "Eagle Strong" pledge are marked with a special icon. Click here to view the map and learn how your businesses can be included.

As your Mayor and a member of this community, it feels good to be on the path back to an open and prosperous economy and society. Please remember as everyone beings to get out of the house and spend more time around town to be patient and kind to one another.

Jason Pierce, Mayor
A Message from the Building Official
As we head into the warmer months, many of the Eagle residents will want to get started on their building projects, and the discussion of building permits always comes up. So, here I have put together the four most common questions regarding building permits.

 What is a Building Permit?
building permit is an official approval issued by the local government agency that allows you or your contractor to proceed with a construction or remodeling project on your property. It is intended to ensure that the project plans to comply with local building safety standards, land use, zoning, and construction.

When do you need a building permit?
Never guess if you need a permit or not. The best way to find out if you need a permit for a construction project is to contact the City of Eagle Building Department. Discuss your plans, in detail, with one of the code officials before beginning the project to determine whether you need a permit.

Why should I get a Building Permit?
Your home or business is a major investment. If your construction project does not comply with the current building codes adopted by the City of Eagle, the value of your investment could be reduced. Property insurers may not cover work completed without permits and inspections. And most importantly, SAFETY. The permit allows the code officials to protect the public through an inspection process to reduce potential hazards of unsafe construction and to ensure public health, safety, and welfare. By following these guidelines, the project will meet minimum standards for safety and will be less likely to cause injury to you, your family, or future owners.

How do I get a Building Permit in Eagle?
You may talk with the Building Department staff or go to the Building Department's page on the cityofeagle.org web site. The web site has all the applications, documents, checklists, fee estimators, etc. that you will need to help you start your project. Being prepared will help you avoid any problems that could cost you time and money. You will need to bring in your application and all required documentation and building plans for review. The plans will be checked for compliance with current code minimum standards. If there are any discrepancies, the plans examiner will either contact you by email or a phone call using the information provided on the building permit application.

As you start planning your building projects, whether it be an addition, remodel, a detached garage/shop, or even just a shed, keep in mind, those all require building permits. Even if you upgrade your kitchen or your garage/shop, all Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing work require permits as well. So always think safety first, know that your project must be code compliant and please ask the building department any questions you may have, we are happy to help.

Thank you
Steve Nash, Building Official

Eagle Field of Honor

The Eagle Field of Honor is returning to Reid Merrill Park this Memorial Day. The event has been an Eagle tradition for 14 years; however, it will be a little different this year. The Eagle Field of Honor Organizing Committee and volunteers will begin installing flags on May 16th. The flags will fly in Reid Merrill Park (637 E. Shore Drive) until May 26th. Due to efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19, there will be no opening ceremony or barbeque this year, but the display will be open to the public and is free to all visitors. If you visit, please practice social distancing and be courteous of others.

The flags honor the service and sacrifice of members of the U.S. Military. If you would like to purchase a flag to honor a loved one and keep after the event is over, please visit https://www.healingfield.org/product/eagleid-2020-sponsor-a-flag-and-pick-up-your-flag/.We are still working out the details for people to pick up their flags after the event is over.

The Eagle Field of Honor is organized by a committee of hardworking local volunteers through the Colonial Flag Foundation. To read more about the history of the event and organization please visit https://www.healingfield.org/event/eagleid20/.
