Picking Up Materials, Crafts & Legos

Here is a quick update based on questions that we received last week as we began curbside service.

Library Services
Please remember the staff at Lansing Community Library want to get back to normal as much as you do. However, the health and safety of patrons and staff is what is most important.

While the Governor’s plan stated that libraries were part of the Phase 1 re-opening plan and could open on Monday, May 4. Based on the Phase One requirements, we are not able to fully open to the public safely at this time. The Governor also stated the importance of flexibility and taking local conditions into account.

A phased re-opening began with curbside service on Monday, May 4th and is available Monday – Friday, 9am until 6pm. This service includes the picking up of holds that have been requested online and over the phone. To learn how to place holds through your account, click on the "How Do I Place a Hold Online?" image above. For the time being, Lansing patrons can only reserve material owned by Lansing Community Library.

We can issue library cards for new patrons. You can request a library card application by email, phone, or online. You can download a paper copy or fill out an online application on our website site at https://www.lansingkslibrary.org/services/getting-a-library-card/. We do ask that when you arrive to pick up your new library card, you have a photo ID and proof of address. We will be able to complete the process at that time.

We are also able to:

  • Add a Craft Pack that goes along with our Weekly Online Story with your pickup
  • Make photocopies
  • Scan documents to email
  • Fax documents

These services will stay in place until conditions allow us to safely move to the next phase.

The Courier Service
The courier is the service that moves items between libraries. It is operated by the Northeast Kansas Library System (NEKLS). These dates and time-frames are subject to change based on the conditions. Here is their plan for phasing-in that service:

May 18 – May 25 Items that were in-transit from other libraries to Lansing when the shutdown took place will be delivered to Lansing.
May 26 – June 1 Items from Lansing that were ready to go out to other libraries before the March 17th shutdown will be delivered to them.
June 2 The service will resume normal operations.

Items on Your Account Now
All materials returned through our book drop or delivered by the courier will be set aside for at least 72 hours before it is checked in, shelved, or made available to patrons.

If you receive an email about an overdue item, please wait at least 4 days and check your account again. If the item is still on your account after 4 days, call or email the Library at (913)727-2929 or library@lansingks.org.

Donations
The Library is not accepting any donations of materials, books, magazines, etc. until further notice.
