Scouts' Own Interfaith Service
on National Day of Prayer

“Scouts’ Own is an inspirational, informal ceremony held as part of regular Scouting activities. A Scouts' Own service is usually short, often lasting no longer than 15 minutes. The service is made up of a mixture of readings, prayers, reflections and music.”

The Orange County Council, BSA invites ALL Scouts, Scout leaders, parents and friends to attend a council wide, virtual Interfaith Scouts’ Own Service on May 7th at 4pm.  May 7th is the National Day of Prayer.  This tradition was originally called by the first Continental Congress in 1775 and was first inaugurated by President Lincoln in 1863. In 1952, Congress unanimously voted to establish a National Day of Prayer and the day was made official when Harry S. Truman signed it into law.  This is not only a meaningful, uniquely American annual event, but this year’s day of prayer is particularly poignant in light of our national and international health crisis.
