Bolsonaro won't help with coronavirus, so Brazil's favelas are helping themselves
Brazil’s President Bolsonaro has described coronavirus as a “little flu” and resisted lockdown measures even as the death toll rises. But in Rio’s favelas, where people live in overcrowded conditions and lack proper sanitation, they are bracing for the worst. (Guardian)

Amid the COVID-19 crisis, working virtually has quickly become today’s “normal.” Remote work fundamentally changes the relationship we have with our teammates, employers, and employees, providing an opportunity to recreate and improve our processes in order to thrive in the virtual workplace. This new normal provides leaders with opportunities to empower their teams to higher levels of performance, collaboration, and action.
The Center for Professional Development at the University of Denver is offering a 3-session course live online—free of charge—on becoming a more effective virtual manager. May 13 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Social science research has demonstrated that many individual decisions are the function of group dynamics. One methodology used to better understand this phenomenon is social network analysis, which centers on social relations, rather than individuals and their attributes. Social network analysis has been applied to a number of development topics, from understanding the adoption of innovations to the diffusion of microfinance. This presentation will begin by providing background into the collection, analysis, and interpretation of social network data. Then, several examples of its application in different development fields will be discussed. Finally, findings from a social network study conducted on latrine reconstruction in flood-affected Ethiopian households will be presented.
