In the coming weeks and months, we will be providing practical and accessible support to businesses by sharing thoughts on how we can still tackle youth unemployment on our MtW COVID-19 Response page. We’ve been collating the innovative ways in which our partner network, across businesses, training providers and youth outreach organisations, are adapting to the crisis and will continue to share these with you.

We have been keeping a close eye on emerging research, showing both the effect on young people and their livelihoods. We are already seeing that young people will be amongst the worst off as a result of the crisis, and yet they could potentially be the best demographic to re-build the workforce. Movement to Work Virtual Coffee Catch Up – ONLINE!

Movement to Work has been listening to what you’ve told us would be beneficial to you, during these testing times. As such, we will be hosting a series of ‘virtual coffee’ sessions, starting later this month, and inviting our partners to join together in an informal way to discuss current issues, challenges and best practice. The initial session will be chaired by MtW and will be a relaxed 45-minute conversation focussing around your needs as an employer in today’s climate.

Movement to Work Virtual Careers Fair – ONLINE!

Movement to Work aims to pilot a series of virtual careers fairs that allow employers to signpost their upcoming opportunities directly to young people. The sessions will consist of short employer presentations followed by live, anonymous Q&A via a digital platform. Opportunities will be amplified via both digital and social channels, and by local government, job centres and youth outreach organisations. We are looking for employers to pilot the scheme to explore if this is a beneficial and viable option for young people and businesses during this time and beyond. The timescale is flexible and dependent on recruitment need, so please do get in contact if this would be of value in the short-, medium- or long-term.

Sophia Spencer - West Midlands Lead

"As the West Midlands Lead, I am currently building on the solid foundation set by the last 12-month pilot phase, which saw almost 1,000 workplace opportunities delivered by our employer network in this area. My aim is to continue to build our network of employers, both large corporates and SMEs, across all industry sectors, but with a specific focus on those involved in the Commonwealth Games and the Health and Social Care industry. I am also keen to build our network of training providers and youth outreach organisations, allowing us to reach more young people who may benefit from the support and opportunities we help make available. "As the North West Regional Lead, seconded to MtW from Unilever, I have started to make some great employer, provider and outreach connections in the region, on top of which, having the opportunity to work closely with GMCA and the Prince’s Trust to assist in supporting delivery of a key initiative in the area. At MtW, we are now in the early stages of planning our North West launch event and would love to get as many partners involved as possible in order to really put the NW on the Movement to Work map.
