Movement to Work stands by you as we face the challenge of COVID-19 together.

We believe in young people and how positive encounters with work can change their lives for the better. Now more than ever.
See below for our latest updates!

In the coming weeks and months, we will be providing practical and accessible support to businesses by sharing thoughts on how we can still tackle youth unemployment on our MtW COVID-19 Response page. We’ve been collating the innovative ways in which our partner network, across businesses, training providers and youth outreach organisations, are adapting to the crisis and will continue to share these with you.

We have been keeping a close eye on emerging research, showing both the effect on young people and their livelihoods. We are already seeing that young people will be amongst the worst off as a result of the crisis, and yet they could potentially be the best demographic to re-build the workforce. To find out what we’re seeing in the research to date head to our MtW COVID-19 Research page.

Please keep in touch!
Let us know what new measures, products and services you’re putting in place, and if you have any problems you need help solving. We are here to help. By brainstorming and sharing best practices, we can all be as efficient and effective as possible.

Movement to Work Forums – ONLINE!
Commencing Tuesday 30th June 2020, MtW will be hosting a regular series of online forums. This first forum will ask: In a world challenged by COVID-19, what does the ‘new normal’ look like for young people seeking work, and how can we all help? Divided into three sections, Insight, Impact and Inspire these will be informative sessions with contributions from research experts, businesses, charities, youth outreach organisations and training providers across our network. Join us as we explore how we’re all adapting following COVID-19, the impact on young people, and the road ahead. We’ll be sharing and learning best practice across the Movement to continue to help #YoungPeopleWork.

Movement to Work Virtual Coffee Catch Up – ONLINE!
Movement to Work has been listening to what you’ve told us would be beneficial to you, during these testing times. As such, we will be hosting a series of ‘virtual coffee’ sessions, starting later this month, and inviting our partners to join together in an informal way to discuss current issues, challenges and best practice. The initial session will be chaired by MtW and will be a relaxed 45-minute conversation focussing around your needs as an employer in today’s climate.

>> To register interest please contact simon.beckman@unilever.com.

Movement to Work Virtual Careers Fair – ONLINE!
Movement to Work aims to pilot a series of virtual careers fairs that allow employers to signpost their upcoming opportunities directly to young people. The sessions will consist of short employer presentations followed by live, anonymous Q&A via a digital platform. Opportunities will be amplified via both digital and social channels, and by local government, job centres and youth outreach organisations. We are looking for employers to pilot the scheme to explore if this is a beneficial and viable option for young people and businesses during this time and beyond. The timescale is flexible and dependent on recruitment need, so please do get in contact if this would be of value in the short-, medium- or long-term.

Introducing the new MtW Impact Tool in partnership with JP Morgan Chase
This new tool helps Movement to Work employers and partners learn more about the areas where they work.  It shows:

  • The claimant count for 18-29-year-olds by ward, with high numbers of claimants shown in red.
  • Recent Movement to Work placement opportunities.
  • Location data for Movement to Work partners.

We’ve built the map in partnership with JP Morgan Chase, through their Force for Good programme. The map is a work in progress. We have an extensive feature list to implement over the next few weeks.  We’d welcome your feedback on how we can use the new map to support and prioritise our work together to ensure young people find help and opportunities to thrive at work.

The inaugural virtual ‘meet up’ of our ambassadors is now set
Wednesday 20th May during which they will be brainstorming how best to formally launch the MtW Youth Ambassador project. If you or someone you know wants to get involved, please register interest online HERE.

Meet your Regional Leads

Sophia Spencer - West Midlands Lead

"As the West Midlands Lead, I am currently building on the solid foundation set by the last 12-month pilot phase, which saw almost 1,000 workplace opportunities delivered by our employer network in this area. My aim is to continue to build our network of employers, both large corporates and SMEs, across all industry sectors, but with a specific focus on those involved in the Commonwealth Games and the Health and Social Care industry. I am also keen to build our network of training providers and youth outreach organisations, allowing us to reach more young people who may benefit from the support and opportunities we help make available. If you would like to get involved, or know of an organisation in your network that would, please reach out to me at sophia.spencer@baesystems.com to schedule some time."

Simon Beckman - North West Lead

"As the North West Regional Lead, seconded to MtW from Unilever, I have started to make some great employer, provider and outreach connections in the region, on top of which, having the opportunity to work closely with GMCA and the Prince’s Trust to assist in supporting delivery of a key initiative in the area. At MtW, we are now in the early stages of planning our North West launch event and would love to get as many partners involved as possible in order to really put the NW on the Movement to Work map. Please do reach out to me with any opportunities you may have available or for any support you feel would benefit you, at this time. simon.beckman@unilever.com"

Chris Gallon - North East Lead

Although we’re currently in unprecedented times, it's more important than ever that we continue to remain focussed on supporting those young people that need us most.I’m still busy speaking to organisations in the North East whilst we’re on lockdown to see where we can help amplify and support the work that they’re doing during the pandemic as well as supporting future planning for NEET youth recruitment so please reach out to me at chris.gallon@sage.com if you’d like to pop some time in to talk.
