WALGA Local Government Showcase Webinars
WALGA's Emergency Management Team is hosting regular webinars which showcase the variety of ways Local Governments have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previous webinars have provided information on the new ways Local Governments have delivered services to their communities, how they have connected community members and innovative projects in libraries, youth and communication portfolios. Last week's webinar focused on how Local Governments have redeployed staff to other areas of their organisations.

All previous webinars are available on the WALGA website

The next webinar will  focus on how Local Governments are setting up economic support and stimulus packages to support their local economies.

The Town of East Pilbara and the City of Karratha will present case studies, and WALGA’s Policy Manager, Economics will provide an economic update.

LGIS Advice for Returning Workplaces
The Local Government Insurance Scheme (LGIS) has provided an information page on considerations for Local Governments when welcoming staff back to the workplace.

The first priority during the COVID-19 pandemic has been crisis response with an emphasis on health and safety, essential services and mobilising workforces where possible. COVID-19 is no longer an unforeseeable hazard, it's very real and needs to be considered as such.

Australia has been successful in flattening the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions are being lifted. Many WA Local Governments are looking to return operations to a 'new normal.'

Local Governments need to ensure they are taking reasonable, practicable steps to mitigate the safety risk associated with the virus during the recovery phase. This will require focus, commitment, leadership and coordination.
