....for your pledge and welcome to the Wild Exmouth project. The second batch of wildflower seeds will be landing on your doorsteps this week. Recent pledges mean that there are now over 300 new wildlife areas being nurtured across Exmouth. If you wanted to be on our map it will be uploaded by the end of this week. Wild Exmouth is a three year community nature project funded by Heritage Lottery, East Devon District Council, Exmouth Town Council and Devon County Council locality fund. Look out for exciting events, nature enhancements across the town and new maps for finding your local green spaces. Read on for our latest news.

Lockdown but Nature Up!
Our partnership with EDDC's Streetscene, who manage parks across the town, is blossoming so to speak. We're delighted to share the great news that they will be trialling leaving selected areas of long grass in three parks this summer; Phear park, Brixington park and St Johns Road playing field. Survey work will establish what species are already present and next year we will add more wildflower diversity if required. All parks will still maintain large areas of recreational space and paths alongside these wilder areas, we have a unique chance to make more space for nature in our urban parks, help pollinators and bring wildlife closer to all of us. Watch these spaces.....literally.

Nature on your doorstep
We hope you are still able to enjoy nature on your daily walks around Exmouth. Our rangers have spotted the thrift looking gorgeous out at Orcombe point this week. If you have noticed nature during your trips out, share your pictures with us and the community on Facebook.

Where's Huxley Hedgehog?
Our prickly friends are out of hibernation and fully active now, there will be lots of hoglets born in May.
Don’t forget that Hedgehog Awareness Week is coming up from 3rd – 9th May. Let’s do all we can to help our spiny friends.
Here are our top ten tips for helping them to thrive across Exmouth:
1. Create access holes in fences
2 Plant a native hedge
3. Make ponds safe so hogs can find a way out
4. Check before strimming long grass areas
5. Avoid using slug pellets
6. Make a hedgehog house
7. Leave out extra food
8. Grow native plants
9. Retain twigs and leaves in a corner of garden
10. Check bonfires before lighting
