Thank you so much for all your contributions into this weeks newsletter. It's lovely to see so many of you!
The world’s smallest frog is the size of a CHEERIO
Interesting Fact of the week
Scientists in India have named a new species of green pit viper snake after a character from Harry Potter. It is found in Arunachal Pradesh, near the Himalayan mountains. The snake was named Salazar’s pit viper after the character Salazar Slytherin, who was one of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter books. His character is known for being able to speak to snakes.
News of the week
A student in Nebraska has grown a mushroom canoe. Katy Ayres made the boat out of mycelium, which is the mass of fungus roots that live in the soil. Mycelium is waterproof and can float. Ayes put mushroom spawn (the substance which mushrooms sprout) in a paper mache canoe shaped mould and left it for 14 days for the fungus to grow. The boat is a living thing and sprouts mushrooms each time it is used.
Something to do.

Catching challenge; how many times can you throw and catch a ball with a partner using both hands then just left handed then just right handed.
I will give my results next week. I am sure my mum is going to love this challenge!!
Previous challenge
The previous 'something to do' was to draw your favourite animal blind folded, no clue what happened to mine …. Can you guess what it is supposed to be? Not sure I even know!!
Hehehehe
As part of a numeracy activity this week, Mrs Whinney asked children in Pre-school and Nursery to make a shape model by using sweets and toothpicks or by using a cut out shapes sheet to make a collage. Alice has made a sweet model and looks like she had great fun doing it too! I wonder how long it was before the sweets were consumed?
Well done Alice!
Elsey is busy completing her literacy work at home. Keep up the good work Elsey!
As part of our termly topic on 'Habitats' the Reception class were given some creative challenges this week. The first was to make a spider using different resources that they had at home and the other was to go into their garden and to create some Jack and the Beanstalk character pebbles to act out the famous traditional tale. Another lovely activity was to make their own butterfly and order its life cycle. Some also had fun making a few mini-beast shadow stick puppets. - with spectacular results!! Well done Reception, what fun, creative and very individual learning!
Class One were sent some photographs on Edmodo of seaside holidays past and present. Eliza and Isabelle came up with these great comparisons. This is good work from secondary sources in History..
This morning, I asked Class One to write a Spring report about a walk they had been on recently. Eliza has sent this lovely photo, she describes Ingoldsby Wood as a carpet of forget me nots.

A bouquet for Mrs Bell - thank you Alex
Harry reports:
We were out feeding the chickens and we spotted the ground move! It turns out it was a mole, thankfully not a rat! We managed to quickly press record and caught a brief glimpse of the nose, then it's pushing the soil up to make a molehill and a surprise appearance of its breakfast trying to make a getaway!
The children had to think about the epic moment when Captain Tom raised an unbelievable amount of money for the NHS. He is an inspiration! Then they had to write about a local hero.
Well done Arya!
Class Two were asked to design a game.
Here is Benjamin's game design from start to finish! Well done!
This morning Class Two were finding different words for WENT. To make their writing more interesting.
Class Four have been busy improving their knowledge of measurement and applying their skills. We have made polygon robots, following some very strict guidelines as to the size of each shape, learnt how to draw templates for gyrocopters by measuring accurately, had a baking lesson (Mary Berry should watch out – or perhaps not!) and are busy making bunting using our understanding of angles!
Olivia’s gyrocopter is spinning so fast you can only just see it above her left hand!
Phoebe, Matthew and Pippa made polygon robots.
Thomas has been baking!
Enya even weighed her pet!
Well done Class 4
Eva created these amazing flags by measuring, cutting and sticking each colour strip by strip.
This week class 5 have looked at how different liquids and objects have different densities. The children were challenged to complete an experiment that shows how you could separate certain liquids by using their differing densities. The results speak for themselves
Some of Class 6 took part in a zoom quiz, Mrs D's Fun Friday Quiz,. There were 8 rounds of questions, that were a mixture of general knowledge and key facts from our classes too. It was great fun.

This is a poem I wrote and a picture of me with the poem when it was complete. Aidan
Our remote way of working has not stopped our artists at TGPS from creating super artwork for us to view. I’m sure you will all agree that the children have used their artistic skills admirably and it is a pleasure to include their work in the Art Gallery.
Technology is a wonderful thing and we should be grateful to have it during times like these. There are so many great resources out there to continue having creative, fun and interactive classes. The students can interact with one another while practicing their English using flip grid, even the littlest student can interact with their friends on zoom, they can play against each other while learning new content on quizizz and they can be reminded of their teacher while looking at a bitmoji on Google slides. This is a time for all of us to be innovative and learn to use new resources. I know that I will continue to use these resources in my classroom even after this crisis is over.
