The Mountains Are Calling Us Out of Lockdown

Good News for Mountain Lovers

Across Europe the ‘lockdown’ measures taken to combat the coronavirus are being eased. We hope you’ve been finding ways to enjoy nature in your backyard, and stay active. In Chamonix, in the French Alps, which is the starting point for many of our trips, the majority of restrictions on outdoor activity have been lifted and the locals now have some freedom to get out and explore the mountains again. But that doesn’t mean the Tracks and Trails team will be hitting the trails in the same way as before, at least not quite yet.

It's still important to maintain social distancing as well as not take any risks that could put pressure on our rescue systems orhealth care. That means we'll still be staying relatively close to home and no overnight hut trips for a little while.

Here are our top tips on staying motivated and fit during this transition period, as lockdown eases.

Tracks and Trails will continue to work towards preparing the company for the re-opening of international travel as soon as this is safe to do so.

We looking forward to seeing you again soon in the mountains!

How to Keep 'Mountain' Fit During Lockdown

Strength & Flexibilty Session our Alpine Trail Running Camp

For anyone who loves the freedom and solitude of trail running in the mountains, lockdown may have been a frustrating time, especially in countries where restrictions on our daily movement have been very limited. So what can we do to keep ourselves fit and ready for the day that our mountains re-open and we can run free again? It’s time to focus your time and make the most of the lockdown experience.

Check out our latest blog on How to Stay Mountain Fit in Lockdown for top tips on staying motivated and fit during this transition period as lockdown eases.

Summer 2020: Tracks & Trails Covid-19 Update

COVID-19 TRIP SUSPENSION: Countries worldwide are now considering how and when to progressively lift restrictions on travel and business, aimed to curb the coronavirus epidemic. The situation will become clearer in the coming weeks but we do not expect a return to travel in the immediate future. Tracks and Trails is therefore postponing all scheduled trips up to and including the 11 July 2020.

If you are booked to travel after this date 2020: Please wait until 8 weeks before you are booked to travel before deciding to postpone or cancel your trip. If you decide to cancel your trip prior to this time then our usual cancellation Terms and Conditions will apply. If you need time to decide on your best course of action, we are happy to take a more casual approach to balance due dates. Tracks and Trails will continue to work towards preparing the company for the re-opening of international travel as soon as this is safe to do so. Read our full: Covid Policy.

A Time Of Renewal For Nature

While the world’s humans have been staying at home, our planet's flora and fauna has been enjoying a much needed time of renewal. In the French Alps, there has even been a sighting of a wolf in the high mountains close to the Aiguille de Midi cable car station. Red kites have been spotted hovering over the chalets in Chamonix Valley, and one of our team, Lindsay Cannon, when out for her ‘allowed’ exercise session near her home in Chamonix, nearly stepped on a rarely seen - and potentially deadly - black asp on a local forest trail. A bear has even been spotted in the Ecrins National Park!

A wolf has been spotted high in the Mont Blanc Massif

As lockdown eases over the next few weeks, we're really excited to get back into the mountains and see the benefits of this period of calm for our planet. We're really looking forward to being part of an important local survey, organised by the Centre de Recherches sur les Ecoststemes d'Altitude (CREA), Wild Mont Blanc, which helps us keep track of animal life in the Mont Blanc range in the French Alps.

In addition we'd like say a huge thank you to our guests from this winter, who chose to contribute to Carbon Offsetting their travel with us, by planting trees through our friends at Carbon Footprint
