Dear Friends,

The strength of our humanity has shone through in the response of our local communities to the challenges posed by Covid-19 coronavirus.

All around the Mid Fife and Glenrothes constituency, children have been making wonderful rainbow and other tributes to our key workers. I have been really impressed by all the submissions to my social media campaign and I know these tributes mean a lot to everyone working on the frontline of the pandemic.

Over 76,000 Scots, including 904 Fifers, have volunteered through the Scottish Government's Scotland Cares Campaign to support our charities, community groups and public services - an incredible response.

My constituent, Steven Braid, for example, has been volunteering in his spare time to support PPE production and delivering 3D printed face shields to healthcare professionals across Central Scotland in his Scottish Gas van.

New community pantries have opened in Leslie and in Over Stenton Park; Markinch Community Council have a team of volunteers helping those in self isolation; and HAGO Computers in Glenrothes are collecting and upgrading old, unused laptops and PCs to give to school pupils who need them to study at home.

After I put them in touch, Rose Duncan at Collydean Community Centre was able to provide Kingdom Abuse Survivors Project (KASP) with equipment needed to move their services online. Rose still has some Scottish Government funding available to help other local groups so please get in touch if your group or organisation needs help.

Last week, Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, confirmed that current lockdown measures will remain in place in Scotland. 

For now, the advice remains the same as it has been: please stay at home except for essential purposes such as exercise, or buying food or medicines.

We can now exercise outdoors more than once a day, which will help us to maintain good physical and mental health during lockdown - but please continue to exercise alone or with members of your household.

By staying at home, you are supporting NHS Fife, our health and care workers, our emergency services, pharmacy staff, and all key workers in the fight against coronavirus.

Together, we will get through this.

Glenrothes and Levenmouth foodbanks desperately need donations at this time, so my constituency office at 12 Commercial Street in Markinch remains open as a donation point. 

The door is open Monday - Friday from 10 am - 4 pm for you to make a contactless donation whilst out on your daily exercise.
