One-off payment for carers on low income during coronavirus
Around 6,080 carers in Fife are set to benefit from a one-off payment of £230.10 through a Coronavirus Carer's Allowance supplement in June. The Scottish Government have committed £19.2 million to fund the supplement in the Coronavirus (Scotland) (No. 2) Bill introduced to the Scottish Parliament this week. MSPs will have the chance to approve the measure next week.

Support for CHAS as they adapt their services during coronavirus
On 4 May I wore my geeky t-shirt (technically a hoodie!) for Children's Hospices Across Scotland's #Maythe4thBeWithCHAS campaign in support of all the work they do to support families and children with life-shortening conditions. My young constituent, Darcy McGuire, did amazing fundraising for CHAS and I visited her in Rachel House last August. If you can, please make a donation to CHAS to support their work at Rachel House.

Supporting local businesses through the coronavirus pandemic

The Scottish Government is working to deliver some of the most comprehensive grant support in the UK to help Scotland's businesses through the coronavirus pandemic. This week the Small Business Grant Scheme was extended to properties occupied by charities. Visit findbusinesssupport.gov.scot to see what support is available for your business.

Scottish Government active travel scheme could boost town
I have encouraged Fife Council to apply for part of a £10 million package of Scottish Government funding to help them reallocate road space to make it safer for those who choose to walk, cycle or wheel for essential trips or exercise. Glenrothes is well served with cycle paths and the funding is an opportunity to further the town's green credentials and to turn temporary measures into lasting benefits.

GP services and pharmacies open on May public holidays
Scotland's Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman, has provided £8.2 million to keep GP services and pharmacies open on 25 May. NHS 24 will also be operating with an increased number of call handlers. Patients with coronavirus symptoms are asked to check nhsinform.scot/coronavirus first for advice or dial NHS 24 on 111, day or night, if their symptoms worsen or do not improve after seven days.

Four years ago this week, I was sworn in as the Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Mid Fife and Glenrothes constituency. It continues to be the privilege of my life to represent our part of Fife in our nation’s parliament.
Nine years ago, my predecessor as MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, Tricia Marwick, was the first Fifer to be appointed as Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament. Tricia was in the Presiding Officer’s chair on the day I was sworn in as an MSP five years later, which made it all the more special.
I am lucky to be able to call her a friend. Despite stepping down from frontline politics, Tricia continues to make an enormous contribution to public life and Scotland’s fight against the coronavirus as Chair of NHS Fife.
My election as MSP in 2016 would not have been possible without the support and trust of my constituents and help of so many friends and local members in the SNP. I will continue to work my hardest every day to champion the cause of our local people and communities.
No matter your political views, if you live in Mid Fife and Glenrothes I am here for you if you need my help or advice.
