Gone fishing for fresh listens

The weekend is nigh! Time to pack up your podcatcher and reel in these new episodes from your friends at the Alberta Podcast Network.

Get hooked on these:
  • EPIC Podcast ran a whole series on crisis tips and strategies for Emergency Preparedness Week, and also dished about it with their pals on Mess Hall Podcast.
  • Comedy and cars feature in the Entertainment list this week, with That's a Thing?! expounding on what's so darn funny anyway, and It's a Conspiracy! covering a man eating a car. Plus, Part 1 of a new sci-fi tale from Makeshift Stories.
  • This week's Alberta Stories sees Andrew Scott of It's a Conspiracy! drop in on Creative Block, and pandemic updates from Eat More Barbecue and Healthy Lifestyle Design, plus YouTube star Alexis Hillyard talks with I Don't Get It on how artists can leverage online creativity.
  • The Learning list includes two new episodes from Ed - Conversations on the Teaching Life and a question on the possibility of Positive Masculinity on Modern Manhood.
  • Sports still exist! Or at least talking about them does. Eskimo Empire does The Renfrow Show, 2 and Out CFL Podcast offers up a family episode, and The 4th Line discusses mean tweets.
That's just the bait: Check out this week's roundup for the whole school.

Podcast news

Our podcasters have been busy lately:

  • Steven Schapansky of Hockey Feels produced a special Yoda-themed stop-motion LEGO animation for May the 4th (a.k.a. Star Wars Day).
  • I Don't Get It's Paul Blinov contributed to the first batch of writings for Parton and Pearl, a new online publication dedicated to comedy and country music
  • Local goodness was encouraged by many on #GivingTuesday, with Speaking Municipally's Mack Male and Don't Call Me A Guru's Linda Hoang offering suggestions on favourite charities to support during the COVID crisis. Linda is slated for an appearance on the Bissell Centre's Good Stuff show on Instagram, too!
  • Mack also hosted a Health City Talks panel on virtual care with Dr. Heidi Fell, Dr. Ewan Affleck, and Rohit Joshi.
  • Let's talk money: APN founder and That's A Thing?! co-host Karen Unland offered up a special Podonomics Playlist for CBC.
  • Charlie of It's A Conspiracy! has swanky new tanks and t-shirts for sale at Old Man Design — we especially enjoy the Social Distance Warrior and Plague Boy wear.
  • Loyal Company of the River Valley did a guest spot last week on Premier Podcast on the 10-year history of FC Edmonton.

And...

  • RØDE announced the return of the My RØDE Cast Competition, with $150K in gear up for the winner.
  • #GivingTuesday may have been last week, but UK organizers are calling on the world's podcasters to unite on May 12 and to spread the word about other podcasts for their listeners.
  • Spotify offered a host of tricks for social media sharing for podcasters, including tips for Instagram, Snapchat, and more.
  • Podcast Festival is a global online event on May 28, and will feature themed discussions on The Future of Podcasting, hosted by Sam Sethi, Minter Dial, and Andrew Grill.
