We wanted to let you know how the blackberries and blueberries are doing this season and tell you how we are going to try to make coming to Dr Young’s Pond Berry Farm as safe as possible in this Covid-19 atmosphere.
The berries have loved this spring!! There have been no late freezes to set back the berry growth so they are in full production. Both the blackberries and the blueberries have been full of blossoms. However, we will not have our usual crop of blackberries since we have replanted 4 rows. We expect them to be a little earlier than usual, so we project an opening date late this month. We will have to let the berries tell us when they are ready.
In order to be as safe as possible this year for customers and staff, we are going to change our method of operation in a number of ways. We will no longer sell berries by weight. Instead, we will sell them by container size. Three sizes will come new out of the box, so you will take what you need, pay for them and then take the container home. We will not allow private containers. You will not have to come to the register to check out.
For the first time ever, we will be able to take credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, tap... all that Square allows. We will also take cash, but will no longer accept checks. You will insert your chip or magnastripe into the reader so that we will not touch your card.
We will provide wash stands to use before and after entering the field.
We have plenty of room in the fields for you to self distance and we will help you find good spots to pick.
We will have pre-picked berries available in full flat or half flat containers.
Blueberry plants are still available in 7 varieties and in two sizes at $10 and $20 per plant. We can provide you with pine bark mulch and detailed instructions for planting.
So, soon we hope to be greeting you and sending you off with incredible blackberries and blueberries for the 2020 season.
