Dear Friend:
As we celebrate nurses and teachers this week, I also want to recognize a debt of gratitude to our law enforcement officers. Overland Park hasn't lost an officer in the line of duty since Deanna Rose in 1985 - until this week. Please join me to honor the life of Overland Park Policy Officer Mike Mosher. In addition to the events listed below, I have placed blue lights in windows of my home.
Salute to Blue
Sunday night, beginning at 8:30 p.m., a fleet of public safety vehicles, with emergency lights on, will drive through Overland Park in place of a candlelight vigil to honor the life of fallen Police Officer Mike Mosher, who died in the line of duty this week.
From Overland Park:
You can do your part by turning your house light blue, attaching blue ribbons to trees or your house, or something else.

Then, gather along the procession route to salute and pay respects to officers.

The Salute to Blue procession will go east on 95th Street from Switzer, turn north on Antioch, turn east on 75th Street, turn south on Metcalf, drive by the W. Jack Sanders Justice Center, west on 123rd Street, turn south on Antioch then west on 135th Street to Switzer.

If you plan to watch the procession, please be sure to practice social distancing.

Officials estimate that more than 100 emergency vehicles from Overland Park and other communities will be part of the procession.

Due to COVID-19, there will be a drive-by visitation late Tuesday afternoon. The private funeral service will be at 10 a.m. at the Overland Park Convention Center, with limited attendance, followed by a private graveside service.

The public can witness the funeral procession from the Convention Center to the burial site. A horse drawn caisson will carry Officer Mosher to the burial site as family members, police officials and others walk west on College Boulevard to Metcalf and turn south.
