So proud to be a Canadian!

Dear Friend

So we are now half way through the month of May and it looks like we may be getting some freedom to move around again. Which is soooo exciting!!  Like many others, my family is very homesick for our extended family and friends so we are super happy to hear that the government is going to slowly start lifting some of the social distancing restrictions.

Most of all though, I am feeling so proud of the Canadian people!  When our Prime Minister asked that all of us stay home and self quarantine, we listened. And we really did stay home... the streets were literally empty of traffic! And because of this, British Columbia has managed to flatten the curve on the pandemic, which is so wonderful!  I am so proud of all of us for taking those recommendations seriously and doing as we were asked to do.

I can feel that there is a renewed interest and more activity in the real estate industry now. And it looks like we are going to have a busy month of June, which is exciting! As movement and interest increases, we are still asking that clients wear masks and gloves when visiting properties in an effort to keep everyone protected.

Well, have a wonderful rest of May and I look forward to connecting with you again in June! Stay safe and well. Warmly, Susanne

Fraser Valley Real Estate Board

Fraser Valley real estate market contracts and adapts in response to public health measures to mitigate COVID‐19

As anticipated, real estate activity saw a steep decline last month in response to the pandemic lockdown, resulting in one of the slowest Aprils in Fraser Valley history.

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board (FVREB) processed a total of 688 sales on its Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) in April, a decrease of 52 per cent compared to sales in March and a decrease of 50 per cent compared to April of last year. According to FVREB historical data, last month’s sales were on par with April sales in 1983 through to 1985; and new listings are in line with numbers last seen in April 1981.

Chris Shields, President of the Board, observes, “Even though March’s initial numbers promised a banner spring, we expected the market to respond this way in April. Both sales and listings contracted in tandem as we all moved swiftly to embrace the measures necessary to respond to this global pandemic. Given that the volume of new listings coming on stream fell even faster than sales in April, the market remains stable.”
