Health Translations - a complete collection of multilingual information


Welcome to the May edition of the Health Translations news for 2020.

As a key stakeholder with important connections across Victoria's multicultural community it is vital we keep you up-to-date with recently added translated resources focusing on Family Violence, Victoia's return to school plan, Influenza vaccination, Legal issues, Telehealth, Centrelink services and other ‘hot’ topics related to COVID-19.

1800Respect


Respect1800 is the national support and counselling service for people who experience abuse and domestic and family violence. The website explains what abuse and family violence is and lists the types of sexual assault and domestic and family violence. It informs on how to access their free counselling and support services. The information also includes videos. It has been translated into 28 languages.

Family violence - there is no excuse videos


Victoria Police has launched a suite of videos in multiple languages to encourage people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities to seek help if they are experiencing family violence. The videos are available in English and 12 other languages.

Family violence crisis response and support during coronavirus


Information on family violence frontline services, including crisis accommodation, police and courts continue to operate to support women, children and families during the coronavirus emergency. Translated into 20 languages. Access HERE.
 

Immigrant Women Support Service (IWSS)


IWSS offers free confidential, practical and emotional support to immigrant and refugee women from non-English speaking backgrounds and their children who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence.
We have recently added their Equality Wheel which hasn’t been available for some time. It describes the changes perpetrators of abuse need to make to stop their violence. You can access all their translated resources HERE.

Victoria's return to school plan translated into 25 languages


The Victorian Government has announced that students, teachers and support staff can return to on-site schooling. This will take place in two stages. This flowchart lists the dates when each grade will start and the essential rules that will be in place. Read HERE.

COVID-19 Multilingual resources


Health Translations is a comprehensive place to find current COVID-19 multilingual information in over 70 languages including Auslan and Easy English. The collection includes facts sheets, videos, posters and other campaign materials. Resources are updated daily.  

Note: As information is changing daily, please be patient with us if you cannot find a resource or come across a broken link. Resources are checked daily and we are working continuously on keeping information up-to-date.

Translated mental health fact sheets


The Victorian Government has translated the factsheet Looking after your mental health during coronavirus (COVID-19). Currently available in 20 languages. Read HERE.
 

Northern Community Legal Centre (NCLC)
  

The legal centre has created 6 fact sheets related to the COVID-19 pandemic on these topics:
-    Renting
-    Parenting and Children
-    Employment
-    Family Violence
-    Financial Assistance
-    Police Powers

Some of these resources are currently in progress and will be translated into Arabic, Punjabi, Nepali and Hindi. Some of the translations are already available. You can check them out on Health Translations or access the NCLC website directly.
 

Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC)

 
AHRC has added a new fact sheet Complaints and the Racial Discrimination Act – translated into 63 languages. It explains when the law is used, what racial discrimination and racial hatred are and when the offensive behaviour is against the law and what you can do if you experience discrimination or racial hatred.
The existing fact sheet Making a Complaint is now also available in 63 languages. It provides an introduction for people considering making a complaint or responding to a complaint. 

Influenza vaccine  - don't take the risk


Australian Government, Department of Health (DHS) has recently published new influenza vaccine information for 2020. The brochure is called Don't take the risk this season: Get the flu vaccine and is available in 10 languages. 

 

New multilingual info from Services Australia/Centrelink


Affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19) fact sheet provides information and services to help you if you are affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) or looking for more details. Translated into 21 languages

COVID-19 Centrelink payment and access options (audio)  
Audio information about payments available for people affected by COVID-19, JobKeeper and how to access to the above payments. Available in 13 languages.

COVID-19 Economic support payments and coronavirus supplement (audio)  
Audio information about the coronavirus supplement, economic support payments and reporting your payments. Available in 13 languages.

 

Poisonous mushrooms growing in Victoria


Poisonous mushrooms including Death Cap mushrooms and Yellow-staining mushrooms are currently growing abundantly around Victoria. Eating just one Death Cap mushroom can kill an adult.
Extreme caution is advised when picking and consuming wild mushrooms - if in doubt, don’t consume.  Translated into Chinese.
