Remembering Victory Day

IFWF invites all individuals to share their personal experiences about their homelands both in times of war and peace to help revise the collective memory of historical events.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the surrender of the Axis powers and a closing of the Second World War. The lasting impacts of the war are manifold and continue to affect the world around us.

The Allies, and above all the Soviet Union, had bled their countries of material, capital, and their citizens and colonial subjects to secure the costly victory against fascism. In the days, months, years following the end of the war, most of these events left disastrous marks on many people—recolonization, imperialism, the Cold War, and so on. Yet it was not like the Great War fought twenty years prior, where disillusionment hovered like a dark cloud above the world despite the dream of a Wilsonian world order. In the heady days of peace for a brief, fleeting moment in history, euphoria reigned in the Victorious Power nations, and possibilities seemed endless in spaces separated from the machinations of statesmen and bureaucrats.

In the confusing times we live in now, we should take some time to remember the ideas of what we fought for 75 years ago, separated from the nationalist discourse of the post-war and Cold War. Self-determination, equal access to resources, social welfare, and a freedom from want and fear. These are all ideas that failed to be realized when they were again corrupted by imperialism and elitism. But it is not too late to save them from the dustbin of history. So this special anniversary of the end of the war, we invite each of you to take a moment to celebrate the triumph of those ideas and the possibilities they represented.

Think about caring for those around you, and the sacrifices made by many in the hope of making the world a better place.

Expression of Gratitude

From Yuliya Davtyan, CEO and Founder
holding_hands_colors

Dear friends,
I cannot express enough gratitude to my loyal, talented, and beautiful volunteers. They are highly educated, motivated, and energetic. They inspire me every day. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and consistency are greater than I hoped for. They are always on my thoughts and in my heart. Our deep gratitude goes to the financial team and our accountants.
All of their daily efforts make it possible for IFWF to stay on the Platinum Level of transparency with the GuideStar. I consider myself blessed with such an amazing team.
These difficult times shall pass too. Wishing you abundance and prosperity for years to come!

Yuliya Davtyan

Coming up at IFWF...

The International Foundation for World Freedom is in the process of creating a Financial Literacy Program.

The program aims at providing essential financial education to those, who are new to finance, such as refugees and students. This program is needed, as many students are not taught basic financial literacy in school, and refugee families may not be familiar with the particulars of the financial system in the United States. Understanding these systems is essential to help one achieve self-sufficiency and independence in the US.

This program will cover topics, such as:
  • budgeting
  • check cashing
  • credit and debit cards
  • maintaining good credit
  • avoiding scams, and more
Unlike other financial literacy programs, this program will utilize a curriculum that is written in simple English, so that those who are new to the English language will be able to fully participate in and understand the lessons. In this way, the program will be supporting New American families and contributing to their long-term financial success.

How to Protect Yourself During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Below are some CDC-recommended steps to help protect yourself and your loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.  More information is also available on the WHO website.

Wash Your Hands

  • Clean hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
  • If soap and water are not available, hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol is a suitable alternative;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

Socially Distance

  • When outside of the home, stay at least 6 feet apart from other people;
  • If someone in your household is sick, maintain at least 6 feet between the person with symptoms and other household members;
  • Avoid crowded places and mass gatherings.

Clean and Disinfect

  • Wipe down frequently touched surfaces every day (i.e. tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, phones, keyboards, faucets, etc.);
  • First clean using detergent or soap and water followed by the use of an EPA-approved disinfectant.

Cover Your Cough or Sneeze

  • If you are not wearing a face covering, use the inside of your elbow to cover your cough or sneeze;
  • Throw away used tissues in the trash;
  • Clean your hands immediately with soap and water or hand sanitizer.

Wear a Face Covering

  • This step is meant to protect others in case you are infected (remember, not everyone with coronavirus has symptoms!);
  • Anytime you are outside of the home, wear a cloth face covering over your nose and mouth;
  • Masks should not be placed on children under 2 years of age or anyone who is unconscious or having trouble breathing.

Know When to Get Help

  • Most people with COVID-19 develop mild illness and are able to recover by resting, staying hydrated, and using over-the-counter medications to manage symptoms;
  • People who think they may have symptoms of COVID-19 should notify their healthcare provider and stay home except to get medical care;
  • Avoid public transportation or ridesharing and do not visit public spaces
  • Seek immediate medical attention for potentially life-threatening symptoms such as difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, confusion, bluish lips or face.
  • Separate yourself from others within your home and if possible, use a separate bathroom;
