The International Foundation for World Freedom is in the process of creating a Financial Literacy Program.
The program aims at providing essential financial education to those, who are new to finance, such as refugees and students. This program is needed, as many students are not taught basic financial literacy in school, and refugee families may not be familiar with the particulars of the financial system in the United States. Understanding these systems is essential to help one achieve self-sufficiency and independence in the US.
This program will cover topics, such as:
- budgeting
- check cashing
- credit and debit cards
- maintaining good credit
- avoiding scams, and more
Unlike other financial literacy programs, this program will utilize a curriculum that is written in simple English, so that those who are new to the English language will be able to fully participate in and understand the lessons. In this way, the program will be supporting New American families and contributing to their long-term financial success.

How to Protect Yourself During the COVID-19 Pandemic
|
|
Below are some CDC-recommended steps to help protect yourself and your loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic. More information is also available on the WHO website.
|
|
Wash Your Hands
- Clean hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
- If soap and water are not available, hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol is a suitable alternative;
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
Socially Distance
- When outside of the home, stay at least 6 feet apart from other people;
- If someone in your household is sick, maintain at least 6 feet between the person with symptoms and other household members;
- Avoid crowded places and mass gatherings.
Clean and Disinfect
- Wipe down frequently touched surfaces every day (i.e. tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, phones, keyboards, faucets, etc.);
- First clean using detergent or soap and water followed by the use of an EPA-approved disinfectant.
Cover Your Cough or Sneeze
- If you are not wearing a face covering, use the inside of your elbow to cover your cough or sneeze;
- Throw away used tissues in the trash;
- Clean your hands immediately with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
|
Wear a Face Covering
- This step is meant to protect others in case you are infected (remember, not everyone with coronavirus has symptoms!);
- Anytime you are outside of the home, wear a cloth face covering over your nose and mouth;
- Masks should not be placed on children under 2 years of age or anyone who is unconscious or having trouble breathing.
Know When to Get Help
- Most people with COVID-19 develop mild illness and are able to recover by resting, staying hydrated, and using over-the-counter medications to manage symptoms;
- People who think they may have symptoms of COVID-19 should notify their healthcare provider and stay home except to get medical care;
- Avoid public transportation or ridesharing and do not visit public spaces
- Seek immediate medical attention for potentially life-threatening symptoms such as difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, confusion, bluish lips or face.
- Separate yourself from others within your home and if possible, use a separate bathroom;
