Harrison Children’s Center remains open for children of essential workers and parents who require care due to difficult “work at home” situations, continuing to take the guidance of The Child Care Council and Department of Health. Up until this point, they have been operating one classroom only with about ten children.
Beginning Monday, May 11th, they will be permitted to accept more children who fit into the designated categories, and will slowly begin to accept additional HCC children. They have implemented new protocols to ensure the teachers’ and children’s safety, including meeting children outside the building, no parents inside the building, temperature taking of all children, staff required to wear masks, no cooking of food (kids are asked to “brown bag” it), etc. The two classes are being kept entirely separate at each end of the building with separate entrances, bathrooms, etc. so that if there is a positive COVID test, they can close only one of the classrooms rather than both.
They will also be spending a lot of time outdoors----they have made some amazing upgrades to the outdoor area and will be planting some new plants and flowers to make it even more attractive. I look forward to being able to use the space when we are able to gather again!
Anita Schwarz provided lovely masks for all of the staff of HCC---they are so grateful for them! Many thanks, Anita!
I share all of this to let you know what an amazing job Debbie Imperia has been doing to provide care for children and doing it in a way that is as safe and nurturing as possible. And while keeping her usual unflappable good humor! Also, to reiterate how important it is that no one enter the building at any time unless absolutely necessary and if you do have an urgent need, to please contact me (Tami) first so that I can arrange for you to safely get what you need without compromising the building for Harrison Children’s Center.
The vestry and I will be meeting with Debbie to discuss other needs and issues as we both get more information about when and how we will be able to move forward with opening and gathering. She receives new information daily about what summer and the fall will look like for child care facilities, as do I about what church gatherings may look like.
Keep the families and teachers and staff and children of all childcare facilities in your prayers----especially the ones who keep our building filled with smiles and love and blessings each day! We look forward to when we can see them in person once again!
Blessings, Tami
