Teaching Jesus' Life and Ministry Online

When Jesus walked the hills of Galilee his followers probably didn't think about how His message would one day be spread over the internet highways, but that's what is happening here in Guatemala. Since traditional classrooms have been shut down due to COVID-19 restrictions, Michael and 13 other teachers at the ASELSI Bible institute are teaching Bible school for about 50 students online. Adventures in The Bible: Tools for Kids Ministry

We've been teaching Bible stories and principles to our neighborhood kids for years now. With the COVID-19 restrictions we haven't been able to meet with the kids in person, but we've been preparing lessons for them and for others. The Adventures in the Bible book is a creative children's Bible curriculum in Spanish that includes 120 Bible stories with questions following each story. There is also a coloring page and a Bible verse to go along with each of the Bible stories! There is a big need for good Christian literature in Spanish so we hope this will help! Michael has used the quarantine time to do a lot of writing on this project. We are currently in the editing stage to finalize this book so that it can be used in our own classes and to equip churches and other ministries to spread the Word of God into hearts of the new generation. The image above is of the front cover and some of the interior art and stories for the book. Read more about the Adventures in the Bible project here.

Delivering Food and Care

Since the children from our Little Disciples Bible Study can't come to us, we are checking in on them and their families and delivering food supplies along with some children's Bible lessons they can do on their own.  We have found that some of these families are barely getting by with the food they can afford since many people are out of work these days. The food packets we provide are helping them add more protein and nutrition to their diet with beans, rice, corn, a nutritious drink, oatmeal, salt, and sugar. For about $13 we can provide a basic food pack that helps feed these families and others who come asking for help. As we provide these food packs, we also pray with them to encourage them and remind them that God has not left them.

Life in Guatemala during COVID-19

Here's our family wearing the latest style that is all the rave on the streets of Chichicastenango. :)
See below for an updated family photo without the masks!
The kids are taking the restrictions in stride as we keep a pretty normal schedule for their homeschooling, but we all miss the personal interactions with others. We are involved in teaching online Bible classes, preparing kids ministry materials, and we are delivering food supplies to families in need in our community. Read on to see more about what life is like here during the COVID-19 restrictions.

Prayer Requests

  • Pastor Hector -- While in Guatemala on a fundraising trip, Hector, the Guatemalan missionary to Cuba we've been working with, got stuck here due to the virus restrictions on travel. More recently he was hospitalized for a pulmonary embolism. He has since been released to his brother's home and is recuperating. Please pray for his health and strength to his body. We believe God still has a lot planned for his ministry in Cuba.
  • COVID-19 - Healing for the sick and faith that triumphs over fears.
  • Classes - That Michael's students in his Life of Christ class will grow deeper in relationship with Christ.
