Mot de la directrice    –    A word from the Principal

Chers lecteurs,

Catherine Renard

Dear reader,

Have you ever noticed that the LIA logo resembles a sail?

Forty-one passengers aged between 3 and 12 as well as ten or so adults have embarked to spend 175 days together—a real adventure with participants who have not necessarily chosen each other.

Opportunities to learn from each other, to listen, forgive and choose to love, will not be lacking. These many opportunities will run parallel with academic learning, and contribute to positive character development.

The LIA crew, enriched by the arrival of a new teacher, Mr Woodward, is delighted after this first part of our journey. Even though a school year is not really a cruise, it is a privilege to embark on the LIA ship.

We thank our supporting team who trust and cheer us on from the docks: our parents, Friends of LIA… and we look forward to sharing with you our adventures.

As a Christian school, we are also thankful that God is at work alongside us, blowing in our sails.

Catherine Renard.

Development perspectives

As LIA wishes to pursue its development and is reflecting on its future growth, the next logical step would be starting a middle school as an extension of the bilingual schooling, which we have developed in primary school and which is showing excellent results. We hope that the creative alternative that we wish to offer for teenagers’ continued education will, not only meet the needs of our current parents, but also to the needs of many more new families.

The Board of directors is currently studying several leads for the new primary school premises as well as openings of middle school.

You can support us by:

- Continuing to inform us about real estate opportunities

- Sharing with us your interest for the opening of a middle school (12-15 year-old students)

Friends of LIA

As most of you have heard or read, this year the school has created an association called the Friends of LIA… But you may be wondering who are the Friends of LIA? What do they do and what does it mean for my family and my child?

The mission of the Friends of LIA is to take action in favor of our school’s growth and enrichment, to promote community activities within our school and also increase our exposure with our neighboring communes. The Friends of LIA includes school teachers and staff, parents of LIA students, grandparents, friends, businesses and anyone wishing to collaborate with our school. Your contribution, ideas and participation are not only welcome but also needed.

This inaugural school year, we, Melissa Herrera and Jen DuBois, feel honored to help to organize and represent this group. We would like to work with LIA parents to create a foundation for projects and initiatives to come, such as our FALL GAMES, which we’d love to turn into an annual event. We want the Friends of LIA to value openness, inclusiveness and quality, doing everything we can to develop our school, thus contributing to our children’s academic, enrichment and international experience. With this in mind, we will be contacting you soon to invite all parents to an inaugural meeting to share ideas and plan for the year. We look forward to collaborating with you.

Mr. Woodward, LIA's newest staff member

Hello. My name is Andy Woodward and I’m the most recent addition to the LIA teaching team.

I was educated in the UK, studied Biology at university and then worked in biological research.

After 15 years, looking for a complete change, I went back to university to take a teaching qualification. My wife and I moved, with our young family, to the beautiful Peak District National Park – dry-stone walls and lots of sheep! As well as teaching infants at the primary school, I joined the leadership team of a local church.

Our three children have now all left home and two of them are married, so in 2016 my wife and I jumped at the opportunity to move to Geneva to support and encourage some friends who are leading a church here. It is a great pleasure to be able to join the dedicated staff at LIA; I will be teaching a range of subjects to the Ants and the Bees classes in English and I look forward to meeting you.
