Hello friend,
I'm very pleased to announce The Healing Switch is re-opening for limited appointments.

The clinic was given the green light several weeks ago but I erred on the side of caution because a safe, therapeutic environment is high on my list of priorities.  For healing to occur it's important to feel safe.

I will be following recommended strict hygiene protocols.
And for the moment, doors will be open mainly to those of you on this list.

It's been quite something having an enforced break and I'm looking forward to being back!

NB It goes without saying to re-schedule if you have any of the following symptoms, no matter how mild - fever, coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath.  And where possible please give me advance notice if you need to re-schedule.

I'm waiving the cancellation policy, which isn't great for business but this is brand new territory for all of us!
Assisting the Body to Self Correct

Sometimes the body's ability to self correct (via the nervous system) gets interrupted or damaged due to injury, postural issues, chronic pain, repetitive overuse etc.

For a lot of people, these 'upside' times have contributed to unique physical stresses & strains.

In the absence of therapeutic hands-on treatments, the next best thing is a little self care.  I did a little most days during Iso and swear it helped both physically & emotionally.

I've been posting some of my 'go-to' practices that help address aches & pains e.g. computer & "text neck", stress, overwhelm, anxiety & also nurture the nervous system.

I invite you to drop by my FB or Insta pages to take a peek.
  There's more to come!

Self Care for Lower Back Pain
Our bodies are designed to self correct.  Nonchalantly waving legs in the air whilst lying on our belly is a classic example.  These unconscious movements can help free up & maintain flexibility in the sacroiliac joint (SIJ). Tension or imbalances in the SIJ can cause lower back pain, sciatica and menstrual pain.

As previously mentioned, our unconscious self corrective capabilities can get overshadowed by other less helpful habits as we move through life.

To get the most value from these movements and to re-introduce the body to it's brilliance, here's some pointers.

Lay on your stomach & bend your knees.

Let the upper torso rest on the floor (i.e. no need to raise it up as if reading a book.  Also, it's NOT a 'cobra' or 'upward facing dog' yoga pose)

Call in the relaxed mood of a summer holiday.

SLOWLY move your lower legs in small then increasingly larger circles. They can move together or independently of each other.

VARIATIONS

SLOWLY move the legs back & forward, side to side, and criss cross like scissors.

Rub lightly down the inside of each leg with the opposite foot.

Notice what feels best for your back. If there's a particularly comfortable posi hang out there in stillness for a bit

It's best to do this at least once a day if there are SIJ issues.

I'd love to know what you experience!
I included these links in the last newsletter but they're so aligned with the bodywork I do, I'm including them again
BTW sadly, the Surry Hills clinic closed permanently during 'lockdown' and for the moment appointments will only be available at the Petersham clinic.
Requirements for personal and client protection to provide a safe and protected experience for all involved:
Both parties wash hands before and after a treatment

A separate towel is provided for each client

Please use the hand sanitiser (readily available)

I will:
- clean and sanitise all surfaces before and after each client

- provide new linen for each client

- wear a face mask, likewise the client when appropriate

We maintain social distancing except for hands-on contact

Please lower the toilet lid when flushing

And please re-schedule if you have any of the following, no matter how mild (fever, coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath) and where possible give me advance notice

Following these protocols make it possible to carry out a safe practice while providing protection for all involved.
As always, may you & your loved ones stay well, connected and kind (as possible!) to yourselves & each other during these unique times.
