Your Monday Brief

Good afternoon,

As a broker, one of the best ways you can serve your clients is by staying informed.

This week we're sharing the top news that impacts your clients' Medicare coverage.

First, equip yourself with this guide to Telehealth options available by carriers. Then keep reading to learn more about a national SEP and other benefits for your clients.

National SEP for Individuals Affected by COVID-19

Effective through June 30, individuals impacted by COVID-19 can utilize this SEP to make enrollment or disenrollment elections.

Individuals will be eligible if they:

  • Reside, or resided at the start of the incident period, in an area for which FEMA has declared an emergency or a major disaster and has designated affected counties as eligible to apply for individual or public level assistance; and
  • Had another valid election period at the time of the incident period; and
  • Did not make an election during that other valid election period.
  • Or they don’t live in the affected areas but rely on help making healthcare decisions from friends or family members who live in the affected areas.
It's important to note that a beneficiary is not eligible if they used their OEP election.

How brokers can serve clients through this SEP:
  • Brokers should confirm that their client had another election period available during the time of the incident period.
  • Once eligibility has been verified, use election code SEP DST on the application.
This Disaster SEP should never be used as a marketing tool to promote MA or PDP sales, but it enables brokers to help beneficiaries who believe they have missed an election period due to the incident.

Humana Announces Important Changes
to Benefit Members

As a part of their "Human Care" approach, Humana recently announced that they would be waiving Medicare Advantage out-of-pocket costs – copays, coinsurance, and deductibles – for primary care, behavioral health (on an outpatient, non-facility basis), and telehealth visits with participating/in-network providers dating back to May 1st through the end of 2020.

Here's what members can expect:

  • Members will receive a letter regarding their change of benefits.
  • Humana will re-process claims for members that have already paid out-of-pocket for in-network primary care, behavioral health, and telehealth visits dating back to May 1st.
  • Safety Kits, including two (2) washable face masks, will be sent out to Humana members later this month through early summer with the exception of PDP members.
