Dear HERO Families,

This has been a challenging school year for teachers, parents, and students.  They say you never really appreciate what you have until it is gone. I agree that we have learned to appreciate the little things a little more. I have grown in my faith and have learned to be more appreciative for times with family and friends.   We can look back at this time and see that we grew in our character.  We matured in love, kindness, grace, flexibility, patience, thankfulness, and in our knowledge of technology.

The HERO teachers will be winding up their HERO classes in the next couple of weeks. The teachers will have your student evaluations emailed to you by the 15th of May or some may have them in your mailboxes at HERO on May 11th and 12th.

Social Distance Parade - May 11th & 12th
We want to end the HERO school year by having a social distance parade! Please join us on Monday, May 11th and Tuesday May 12th between 10:30-12:00 in the parking lot at Crossroads Church.  This event will be held rain or shine.
  • Enter the Crossroads parking lot as you would on a normal school day.
  • There will be a parking attendant (HERO parent in a vest) showing you where to park and wait for your turn to drive through the teachers line up parade.
  • It would be great if your children could do signs letting the teachers know they appreciate them.
  • All parents and children are to remain in their cars.  You will want to have your car windows down when it is your turn to drive through the teacher line-up.
  • If you have projects or items to pick up at HERO, or if you want to check your mailbox, please leave your children in the car.  There will be tables set up right inside the garage entrance to the gym.  Please enter through the garage door and get your children’s items and return to your car while you wait for your turn to enter the parade.
  • We do have a surplus of drinks, chips and wrapped candy that you can purchase at an outside table by the Activity Building.  Only parents can come and purchase the items for their children.
  • The HERO yearbooks can be picked up by the car port area by the main church building.  We are almost sold out of yearbooks.  If you have not reserved your copy, please email Jayne Wahlberg.
  • There will be hand sanitizer stations and Clorox wipes available by the Activity Building and by the main church under the car port.
  • When you are instructed to enter the parade, drive slowly through the HERO teacher line-up.  Wave your hands and posters and be ready for the teachers to throw you some candy into your car.  We are doing the reverse from a normal parade.  The teachers are throwing the candy into the cars to celebrate the last day of HERO for the 2019-2020 school year.
  • We have asked the HERO graduates to join the teacher line-up, wearing their caps and gowns.  Give them a honk and a shout out of congratulations.
  • If you have any questions, please address them to Jayne Wahlberg.  Please abide by the social distance recommendations.  Make sure your students remain in your car.

The HERO Class Schedule and Registration forms for 2020-2021 school year are posted on the HERO website. In order to register for the 2020-2021 school year, HERO member accounts must be paid in full.  Registering for existing HERO members will start May 1st. Beginning May 15th, HERO registration opens to all families that are interested.

HERO is offering the Gibson test, administered by Learning RX on-line. The Gibson test measures the performance of the following key cognitive skills: short-term and long-term memory processing, speed auditory processing, visual processing, logic and reasoning, and word attack skills. The report you receive will give a detailed look at individual cognitive strengths and weakness in each of these areas. The test also measures IQ. The reason to take the Gibson exam is to identify weak skills so that your student can be strengthened through brain training. Cost of the exam is typically $100. HERO members are being offered the test for $25 (must be age 5 and up, adults welcome).  The registration link is: https://forms.gle/5v8NzxTnYkaLEXoF9

Once you have completed the on-line registration, please send payment of $25 to HERO. When HERO confirms payment, Learning Rx will assign you a Gibson test and email the log in information (to each individual family).  This will be done manually at Learning RX, so the link will be emailed out 1-2 days after confirmation of registration and payment. The deadline for both registering for the assessment, and completing the online assessment is May 31st, 2020.
