Dear ISSBD members, Colleagues and Friends,

We write to provide another update on the situation with the ISSBD biennial meeting.
This week the Greek government updated their national advisory which officially makes it impossible to host our ISSBD meeting in Rhodes, June 21-25, 2020.

We have made some decisions that we would like to share with you.
Our 2020 meeting is officially postponed until 2022.

Anyone who has made payments either for registration and/or hotel will be reimbursed. Please be patient as the people who will facilitate this reimbursement have also been laid off or furloughed. They are doing their best to complete the process by the end of May.

We are exploring the possibility of holding the 2022 meeting in Rhodes. We will make decisions about that as we have more explicit information. At that time we will confirm the exact dates of the 2022 conference.

We are exceedingly disappointed as we were expecting an outstanding meeting. We had a record number of abstract submissions. The conference program was virtually complete and looked to be of excellent quality.
We are exploring how best to benefit from the already accepted submissions, while also leaving room for updates and new submissions at our next meeting.

Although ISSBD members have many opportunities for ongoing contacts, e.g. the journal, the newsletter, mentorships, we understand that many of our members look forward to the opportunity to hear from world class scholars in the field as well as the possibility of in-person contact with our peers.

As a way to provide a little something to those of you who were planning to join us in Rhodes, we have asked our keynote speakers to give a version of their proposed keynote to us virtually. Fortunately, all but one have agreed to do so.

We are also looking into the possibility of arranging virtual posters sessions and/or provide space for presentations and posters on our website.

We will update you in the coming weeks, as soon as details become available.

In the meantime, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. These are difficult times. We must join together to support one another so that we can get through this together.

Warm regards from

Frosso Motti-Stefanidi, Chair of ISSBD 2020
Toni C. Antonucci, President of ISSBD
