Thank you everyone in the Castro who is sheltering in place, wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart. It is working. We need to keep it up. The coronavirus is still with us. . Dear Castro Neighbors and Friends,

Well, this certainly is a different June in the Castro. June is usually compared to Christmas for our local businesses. This is a hard time. But, we are rising to the challenge. The Castro is beginning to open up and there's al fresco dining all over! Don't forger retail is also open! Different shops have different schedules, many retail shops are open for indoor shopping, so visit them! Come on down to your local commercial corridor!

I want to thank our brave merchants for hanging in there and trying out this new way of doing business. Hopefully, it won't be long and we can go back to eating, shopping and drinking indoors and outdoors.

Neighbors, thank you for eating, shopping and drinking at your local businesses. They are depending on you at this time, there is no one else. You can also shop at your favorite local small business on-line.

Please remember to shop local, wear your mask and stay 6 ft. apart. We will get through this together.

Annual Report is ready for viewing.

The Castro CBD Clean Team is back to working 7 days a week from 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. They work very hard to keep the Castro clean. When you see them, please say hi!

Remember! We have a cleaning dispatch telephone number, 415-471-7536. Call this number when you see an urgent trash related issue in the commercial district.

The Shared Spaces Program allows businesses to expand onto the sidewalk or parking lane with a free permit. Enjoy these sunny days and long nights! Have dinner with your household at your favorite restaurant....outside!

Once again Jane Warner Plaza will be activated with rainbow colored tables and chairs! Look for a place to sit beginning Friday. Make sure to wear your mask and stay 6 feet apart. Sit with people from your household.

The Castro CBD is Greening the Castro/Upper Market! The Castro CBD organized a meeting with DPW to discuss the palms and gingkos on Castro St. Beautification Committee member Stuart Dick met with Stephen Keller, DPW Arborist and the CBD Exec. Director, Andrea Aiello to develop a plan to:
1) Replace the dead Palms
2) Trim the Ginkos.

It may take a while, but the dead palms will be replaced!

Also, the CBD Beautification Committee has been working to get a few sidewalk planters planted in front of a few businesses. Look for them soon!

We're very sad to let you know that our Live! In the Castro Summer Entertainment in the Jane Warner Plaza has been canceled for this season.
Live! in the Castro has been primarily funded by a city grant. Every year the new grant begins on July 1. Due to the city budget shortfall, we have been advised that this funding will not be available this year. It is also unclear when public events will be allowed. In the meantime, enjoy the Jane Warner Plaza and use it for take out from a local restaurant, to people watch and to read a book.

The Castro CBD is up for renewal. The election is going on now. Property owners were sent the official mail-in ballot in an envelope that looks like this image. Inside is lots of information about the CBD renewal , including the actual mail-in ballot. If the CBD is not approved by the property owners, our doors will close on 12/31/2020 and all services will end. Now is the time to remind your landlord to vote yes and to mail their ballot in.
