Leaders in Training to Provide Financial Relief to

Las Vegas Families Impacted by COVID-19

Families will receive a one-time $500 cash transfer as part of the national #GiveTogetherNow initiative

LAS VEGAS (May 4, 2020) — Leaders in Training (LIT), a local college access and community empowerment organization, has partnered with #GiveTogetherNow, a national rapid-relief initiative, to provide funds to Las Vegas families having a tough time financially because of the coronavirus. Families in the LIT network will receive a one-time cash transfer of $500.

LIT started contacting families last week and within just 48 hours, the money was in their bank accounts.

“#GiveTogetherNow truly saved our family and definitely came at the right moment,” said Taja Tellis. “Due to COVID-19, I was laid off and have been struggling to get through to unemployment. With #GiveTogetherNow I was able to purchase groceries, personal hygiene products and pay bills. My children and I are truly thankful!”

With the $100,000 available from #GiveTogetherNow, LIT is able to provide financial support to all of the families in their network, but recognize that the need is so much greater, especially since the majority of Las Vegas residents work in the hospitality industry, which has been shattered by the pandemic.

“Las Vegas families are suffering with the loss of the tourism and hospitality industry. We are incredibly grateful #GiveTogetherNow chose to partner with LIT to ensure our families most hit in East and North Las Vegas have the support they need,” said Erica Mosca, founder & executive director at LIT. “There are thousands of other families in our community who urgently need support now and I hope our gift sparks giving to #GiveTogetherNow so they can support more families in our community.”

#GiveTogetherNow was created by Stand Together and Family Independence Initiative. LIT is one of more than 250 nonprofits and community groups across the country working with the initiative to identify families who are the most impacted, including two others in Nevada - HOPE For Prisoners (Las Vegas) and Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.

If you want to donate to help Las Vegas residents weather the storm caused by this pandemic, visit GiveTogetherNow.org and designate Las Vegas as your target location.
