Below is from the previous e-announcement

The Department would like to send this message to each of you, as a reminder, that we continue to be here to support you, our support doesn't change whether it is in person or as we are now, virtually.

During this new normal that we are each adjusting to, we want you to remember that we are here for you. The image below is to show you our faces as a reminder, and link to our profile pages so that you may reach out to us with your questions and concerns.

Thank you for being a Wildcat and for allowing us to provide instruction and support to each of you.

For me, as your academic advisor, I want to hear from you and meet with you.  Please schedule an appointment to discuss the usual topics, of course, like class planning, degree requirements, etc., but also so that I may provide a listening ear, so that you have someone to talk to and express any concerns and questions you may have.
I truly miss seeing each of you travel through the department for our meetings, your class study sessions, and TA/instructor office hours.  I hope that we may return to campus as soon as it is safe to do so.

Further down this e-announcement is reminder info on the Pass/Fail grading policy, how to access my schedule, course announcements from AREC for both Summer and Fall sessions, and concentration and focus area courses for our ABEM-ECON and EWRE majors.
And, Student Emergency Fund info, and the CALS Life Management Counselor info for Ryan Daily.

STAY SAFE, WILDCATS!

The next section below highlights several of our courses for Summer and Fall.

Student Emergency Fund Request

The University of Arizona utilizes the Student Emergency Fund to support our students who are in danger from withdrawing due to an unexpected, temporary financial hardship as a result of illness, family crisis, natural disaster, or other emergency or crisis situations. The fund is intended to assist UA students by providing subsidies solely for unexpected emergency expenses.

The Student Emergency Fund is intended to cover temporary costs that may hinder a student from succeeding academically or from meeting their basic needs.

Review more information from the link below and submit your request, if needed:

Reminder info for Pass/Fail grading option:

Regarding the Spring 2020 only, Pass/Fail (P/F) policy and updates:
All P/F policy updates can be accessed at: https://registrar.arizona.edu/spring-2020-information-and-updates

My message to all students about the P/F option as things to consider and to clarify:
  • P/F grades are allowed to satisfy future course pre-reqs.
    • For example earning a P grade in MATH 112 will allow for future enrollment in MATH 113/116.
    • Earning a P grade in a 2nd semester proficiency in a 2nd language course will satisfy the degree requirement.  Earning a P grade in the 1st semester level language course will allow the student to proceed into the 2nd semester level language course.
  • Should a student select P/F grading:
    • they must continue to make progress with the coursework and earn within the course, an A-D grade in terms of points in the class, in order to be awarded a 'P' grade.
    • If a student earns an E in the course according to the points available, an F will be awarded.
  • P grades will award units that are calculated into the grand total of UA units, but they will not impact GPA at all, F grades will not award units and will not impact GPA.
  • If a student does not select P/F grading, no action is needed to remain in the grading system you originally had at the start of the semester:
    • With earning A-D final grades, these will award units and impact GPA, E grades do not award units and negatively impact GPA.
  • P/F graded courses/units will satisfy degree requirements.  This amended P/F policy is for Spring 2020 courses only.
  • May 6 is the absolute deadline to submit the P/F request.
  • I believe it is smart to wait until closer to the May 6 deadline to make a final decision to change to P/F, in case students are able to earn a positive final grade and keep the regular graded system in place now, with A-E final grading.
  • I recommend setting a calendar reminder for May 3 to make the decision, so that you will remember to go to the submission portal in Student Center and submit the request(s) for any classes you have decided to take P/F.  UA has made it clear that petitions/appeals to the P/F request after the deadline will not be accepted.
    • Check in with your instructors directly, or in D2L to learn where you stand in terms of points and your current grade before deciding on whether to remain in the regular A-E grading scale or change to P/F.
  • If you are in the process of GRO this semester, please schedule an appointment so we can discuss how GRO is impacted by selecting P/F.
  • The process to submit the P/F request has been updated in Student Center as of Mar. 26.
  • Details are being updated as they occur at https://registrar.arizona.edu/spring-2020-information-and-updates

I understand emails are flooding in.  CALS emails to watch for, which are being sent:
  • Sundays, the "CALS Connect: Need to Know" newsletter with important dates and deadlines, announcements, opportunities, and resources.
  • Tues-Sat, the "CALS Daily Digest", is meant to summarize the newest updates due to the outbreak and related policies.
  • There is a CALS site which archives each of these emails, that anyone can access at any time: https://cals.arizona.edu/content/cals-e-newsletter-archive
  • The above are robust emails, which is why I am decreasing my listserv outreach and only sending emails when necessary (like this one).
