DANA POINT COVID-19 COMMUNITY UPDATE MAY 4
Check our Facebook Page for the latest updates.

City:  The City Council will be holding a regular City Council meeting tomorrow.  The agenda can be found here.  Comments can be submitted to comment@danapoint.org

The City is working with State and County officials to get beaches reopened with active recreation and social distancing policies.

The food drive by the City of Dana Point and Dana Point Surf Club Saturday morning was a great success with over 500 bags of food donated.  The food will serve our senior community and families in need.  Thank you to Team Rubicon and those of you who donated food or time.  We want to say a special thanks to our local Subway for donating sandwiches to feed our volunteers.

Need a break from cooking? The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce has a great list of our local restaurants offering take-out and delivery.  Click here.

Looking for more to do while you are at home?  The City of Dana Point’s Recreation Division has launched a Virtual Recreation and Resource Center found here with a number of classes and resources available at no cost. #DPRecAtHome

Below are the areas under construction over the next few weeks.

Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) from Crown Valley to Niguel Road, primarily in the Southbound Direction – South Coast Water District is going to be doing some asphalt repairs on PCH, Monday through Friday from 7:00AM to 5:00PM.  The work should be concluded by May 8th except for finish striping.

PCH from Crown Valley to Niguel Road – The City will also be doing asphalt repairs and placing slurry in the month of May in this segment.  Work will continue through mid-June.  Use alternate routes if possible.  More alerts will be provided when major work activity is planned.

Dana Point Harbor Drive – The City is starting asphalt repair work on Dana Point Harbor Drive on Monday 5/4.  The work will last through the middle of June.  Major repair work will be done over the next several weeks.  Avoid this area if possible.    More alerts will be provided when major activities are planned and please pay attention to our message boards.

County:  The County Board of Supervisors has a meeting tomorrow at 9:30AM.  They are expected to discuss beaches and businesses reopening.  The meeting can be viewed here.

At the April 28th Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting, Chairwoman Michelle Steel and Supervisor Don Wagner brought forth best practices for businesses and the public to follow. The guidelines unanimously approved by the board are intended to assist Orange County’s transition back to a normal state of activity. All recommendations follow the Orange County Health Care Agency and do not supersede any conflicting or more restrictive orders issued by local governments, the State of California, or the Federal Government.  More about this here.

The County of Orange is reporting COVID-19 cases by city.  The information can be found here.

Call OC Health Care Agency Health Referral Line 1(833)426-6411 for inquiries related to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Orange County, California.

State:  Governor Newsom said today he will announce on Thursday modifications to the Stay at Home Order to move the State into “Phase 2” on Friday.  He presented California's Reopening Roadmap Report Card that shows key metrics are on-schedule. He stated we will begin to gradually move into Stage 2: Lower Risk Workplaces starting this Friday, May 8.  This gradual move into Stage 2 includes expanded retail with curbside pickup and associated manufacturing and supply chains. He also mentioned the ability for local counties to move further into “Phase 2” with plans certified by County Health Officers and the Board of Supervisors. The State is working to create guidelines that will allow restaurants and other hospitality businesses to open their doors again, with modifications.

Federal:  U.S. Representative Mike Levin will host a Virtual Town Hall on Wednesday May 6, at 2:00PM with Dr. Kelly Motadel, Chief Medical Officer of the Vista Community Clinic (VCC). They will answer constituents’ questions regarding the latest public health information, the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and more. Constituents can submit questions ahead of time by emailing them to MLevin.Press@mail.house.gov and including their first name and city of residence.  The Virtual Town Hall can be viewed here: facebook.com/RepMikeLevin.

The CDC has released Reopening Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Public Spaces, Workplaces, Businesses, Schools, and Homes.  That information can be found here.  There is also guidance related to travel here.

Don't forget to take the 2020 census.  The 2020 Census will help decide how billions of dollars will reach our community. Your answers will help determine funding for dozens of programs that provide essential resources to Californians. Census data determines funding allocations for schools, childcare programs, road maintenance projects and social assistance programs.

Services and Resources Directory is now housed on the COVID-19 page on the City’s website.  New services and resources will be shared in this update, then moved over to the City’s COVID-19 webpage.  You can access that information here
