Yellow Phase Begins Friday, May 15
Click here to read the full details of the red/yellow/green process to reopen Pennsylvania.

What does Yellow Phase mean for the library?

Library staff has been working remotely while the library has been closed. Starting May 15, library staff will return to the building to prepare for a phased reopening process. During this process, CCM will be abiding by guidelines provided by the Allegheny County Library Association and Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

Our first phase of reopening will be curbside pickup for holds. We do not have a date set for when curbside pickup will become available.

The library building is still closed to the public indefinitely. We do not have a date set for when patrons will be able to reenter the building to use computers and browse the collection.

All in-house programming is still cancelled through May 31.

Please monitor our social media channels and website for updates. Contact us directly (412-731-0909 or ccmellor@einetwork.net) with any additional questions regarding reopening.
If you know anyone who would enjoy hearing from us every week, share this email with them! We'll be sending information about library programming and services, as well as links to other online resources. Click here to see previous emails if you missed one, and click here to subscribe.

For Kids

Listen to Daniel Radcliffe read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: HP himself reads the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone/Sorcerer’s Stone, as part of Harry Potter At Home. Look out for more special video readings in the upcoming weeks.

The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati has several of their performances available on YouTube, plus games, crafts, and activities.

25 Public Interest Challenges Kids Can Do At Home: Kids and families can take steps to help their communities even while at home! US PIRG has tips for ways to...

  • Help others in your community
  • Practice democracy
  • Fix your stuff
  • Make your home a safer place to live
  • Explore kid-friendly transportation
  • Move toward zero waste
  • Take action to protect the environment

For Adults

Go cloud gazing: The Cloud Appreciation Society was founded by Gavin Pretor-Pinney in 2005. Its tens of thousands of members around the world communicate online via a  “Cloud Forum,” and they regularly convene at “Sky Gatherings,” which feature group expeditions, lectures on cloud-related art and science and even performances of cloud-themed music. They also submit photographs to the Cloudspotter app to earn stars and badges for properly identifying the clouds they spot.

Bake a focaccia garden: Get creative with your baking and decorate a beautiful focaccia! CCM staff recommends the Shockingly Easy No-Knead Focaccia from Bon Appetit or the Classic Focaccia from the NYT.

Start composting: If you're finding yourself with a lot of food scraps on your hands from cooking at home more, now is a great time to start composting! If you've got a bit of outdoor space you can build your own compost pile, or contact a local composting cooperative like Shadyside Worms.
