Shelter-in-Studio: COVID-19 Resources
COVID-19 poses unprecedented challenges across sectors. Public policies and
governmental responses are in flux and changing daily. Amidst this uncertainty, educational
institutions are in upheaval, and many arts organizations are closed, leaving a growing
number of workers in the lurch.
In the past two weeks, we have seen artists, educators, cultural workers, and organizations
come together in this unsettling moment to conceive of mutual aid strategies to soothe
anxieties and promote collective action to support the wellbeing of the most vulnerable of
our populations.
At Art Practical, we have compiled a selection from the many proliferating online lists and
guides in response to COVID-19 directed to artists, art educators, cultural workers, and
cultural
organizations. While certainly not all-encompassing, we hope that this list can direct
our readers to useful resources and strategies, as the situation rapidly evolves.
You can find our list of resources here.

COVID-19
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has banned gatherings of more than 50 people and ordered the closure of bars, restaurants and personal service businesses if staff cannot implement social-distancing measures. Individuals are also directed to keep two meters apart out in public.
As such most local and national events have been cancelled or have moved to an online event.

WANDER: Toward a Lightness of Being (2019)
is a public art project by LAIWAN, created in collaboration with UBC’s Department of Earth, Ocean and At
649 22nd St, New Westminster, BC.22nd Street Skytrain Station Bus Exchange. The art project is located at the City of New Westminster, Metro Vancouver's transportation network, and the TransLink and commissioned by mospheric Sciences (EOAS)
WANDER encourages playful discovery of and advocacy for the lives of phytoplankton, making visible the water critters inhabiting the Fraser River, collected for this project from nearby the 22nd Street Bus Exchange site. The artwork aims to encourage curiosity among commuters and the general public about the natural and built environment surrounding this site.
The project simulates a ‘hidden object activity’ where commuters and audiences have opportunity to locate the twenty-two icons and a number of haikus on site. Some designs may not be immediately obvious, but all can be found in a variety of forms, surfaces or possibilities

M:ST - Call for Streaming Artwork
Deadline: Ongoing. Submissions will be accepted until we run out of available
funding for the project or until the Canadian border opens to international travelers
and the M:ST 10 Biennials international residency exchange program resumes.
Preamble: This project has been (quickly) created in response to the impact that our
community members are experiencing worldwide due to pandemic related
restrictions on movement, social distancing, project cancellations, and layoffs.
COVID-19 has affected people in ways that are impossible to describe here, and this
projects capacity to support artists is far from exhaustive. Our goal is to democratize
the capacity to work from home by creating and disseminating a performative
platform that can be engaged with from home.
Local and global artists are invited to submit proposals for performative works to be
presented online via YouTube Live. Performances should occur in the artists home
or place of residence with readily accessible materials. Performers must be able to
supply their own computer with video streaming capabilities. Streaming dates and
times will be organized between M:ST and the artist and advertised through M:STs
networks.
View the call and download a PDF version on our website
https://www.mountainstandardtime.org/opportunities
How to submit your proposal:
Applications will be accepted by email only, and written components may be sent as
inline text, PDF, or a Word or Pages document. Please send them to
