The Student Strikes of 1970
Fifty years ago, Boston College experienced a whole different type of disruption.

Fifty years ago today, Boston College students voted to join a nationwide strike against U.S. military action in Cambodia, after members of the Ohio National Guard killed four Kent State University students during a protest the day prior. While classes were still in session that semester, most BC students had stopped attending them in mid-April as part of a strike against a proposed tuition increase. The student protesters held rallies, vandalized the ROTC office, and enlisted the marching band to cause chaos in the corridors.
Senior Spring Athletes Reflect on a Lost Season
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, BC’s spring athletes had their seasons cut short this year. And while the NCAA announced that all spring athletes would receive an extra year of eligibility, winter athletes still lost the chance to play in NCAA championships. The Heights spoke with senior athletes and head baseball coach Mike Gambino about the abrupt end to the season and what the NCAA’s announcement means for them.
A Cappella Groups Adjust to New Circumstances
After news of BC’s move to remote learning reached a cappella groups across campus on March 11, many groups staged impromptu performances to honor their senior members—who would no longer get the chance to close out the year with a final show. Since leaving campus, some groups are using their time away from BC to continue practicing, put together Zoom performances, and form closer bonds with alumni.
