We are pleased to share with you the first official Florida 4-H Alumni + Friends Community update. We look forward to sharing 4-H news including program updates, resources, and opportunities to connect at 4-H events across the state. Community is as important as ever, and we are so glad you are a part of ours.
Youth, professionals and volunteers across the state are working every day to live their pledge to make the best better for their clubs, communities, country and world. Here are just four stories of how Florida 4-H'ers are making a difference during COVID-19 with HEAD, HEART, HANDS and HEALTH:
In April we celebrated National Volunteer Month by recognizing some of the 10,000 volunteers who make Florida 4-H great. Search #FL4HVOL on Facebook to see some of the many posts paying tribute to individuals like Sandy Hernandez, Dorothy Blair and Anne Bell Peterson. These three volunteers represent a combined 90 years of service to 4-H! You can spotlight a volunteer any time of year using #FL4HVOL.
Follow @Florida4H on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube to keep up to date on fun and educational 4-H opportunities throughout the summer. And check out blogs.ifas.ufl.edu for more UF/IFAS and 4-H news. Membership not required for many virtual sessions, and a great chance for young people to discover 4-H.
During #GivingTuesdayNow we hope you'll take a moment to spread the 4-H spirit of community - whether the gift of a special moment with a loved one, kind words for a neighbor or a gift to our 4-H'ers. We are #BetterTogether.
On Monday, UF named J. Scott Angle, director of the US Dept. of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, to lead UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
UF/IFAS includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Florida Ag Experiment Station, and the Florida Cooperative Extension Service (administers 4-H). Angle succeeds Jack Payne, who is retiring after 10 years in the position. Read more here.
