”We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill
Things in the world might be a little upside-down at the moment, but that doesn't mean we've slowed down our efforts! Consider making a much needed donation to Believe in Haiti to help our mission move forward.
Where is the money focused this month? Safety, health, and food.
While some projects have to be paused for the moment due to the health crisis, there are a few others of immediate importance. Our goal this month, in collaboration with another Haitian foundation, is to make 2,000 masks to distribute to the communities to help limit the spread of illness. Our Haitian sewing instructor has applied and received a grant for a portion of this project.
Yes! I'll help bridge the financial gap for the mask project!
Food is becoming increasingly more difficult to find in Haiti at the moment. Goats, however, are a great (and culturally accepted!) source of protein and calories. We recently completed the goat shelter and fencing and are ready to raise goats. The rainy season has just begun in Haiti, which is the ideal time to bring on goats to the program.
Yes! I'll help purchase goats for St. Rock!
The farmland is doing amazing at the moment. Currently, we are seeing sweet peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, manioc, and cabbage. This is/will be a huge blessing, especially right now. But it doesn't come without its costs. This large, life-saving project comes with ongoing expenses (that are worth every penny!) From tools, seeds, supplies, to professional agronomists who make sure the land is as efficient and fruitful as possible, this is one of the most expensive ongoing projects.
Yes! I'll help the community have fresh, healthy, productive crops!

You probably already know: Haiti has it tough. Life is a struggle. Food, education, shelter, all the basic necessities; they are all a struggle in everyday life.
And then there is the COVID virus that has hit Haiti just as it has hit everywhere else. The daily struggle of necessities has now become a dire fight to survive. Because of this terrible virus affecting just about every spot on the planet, Haiti is being hit hard.
Food has become increasingly difficult to find. Stores are empty. Logistics have all been interrupted. Water is becoming even more scarce.
How have we adapted things?
The farming program remains a great strength and help to the community, providing much needed nutrition and calories.

The feeding program is continuing strong. Now, the cooks wear masks and gloves. To collect food, each family enters one at a time and brings their own plate. They are served food and take it out with them.

The sewing program has continued, but will not be operating at full capacity. A few students at a time attend the class in order to follow guidelines and Haitian laws on gatherings. Alongside another local foundation, the sewing program will be focusing on making thousands of masks to disperse in the community.

Flag Day is a major holiday in Haiti. It is celebrated May 18th and is accompanied by celebrations, fanfare at the national palace, and parades throughout Haiti (though this year may see a decrease in large gathering festivities). The flag in Haiti has a deep history and is a strong symbol of pride. The story of the flag tells of Haiti's struggles, victories, and fight for freedom that Haiti has endured over hundreds of years. The flag has gone through numerous design changes, but has officially been the shown design (red and blue with the coat of arms on a white square in the middle) since 1986.
