Updates 

Ask the Network Series 

MEAM is producing a series of recordings and blogs focused on multiple disadvantage and COVID-19.

This week, we've spoken to Nicky Park from St Giles Trust about working with people in prison and preparing for release. We've also published a blog about prison release by Amanda Sherriff, MEAM partnership manager for the South West.

Latest policy news - COVID-19

Dame Louise Casey to lead rough sleeper taskforce

The government has announced that Dame Louise Casey will lead a taskforce which will advise the government on the next steps of the response for people sleeping rough during the pandemic.

Extra funding for vulnerable groups 

The Communities Secretary has announced £76 million of extra funding to support survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and vulnerable children and their families. He also announced an amendment to the Domestic Abuse Bill to ensure that all those fleeing domestic abuse will now be given priority need for housing by local councils.

Testing widens to include homelessness workers

On May 1st it was announced that the testing programme for COVID-19 will be extended to a greater number of statutory workers; including social care staff, people delivering the benefits system and those working with vulnerable children and adults, victims of domestic abuse, and homelessness workers.

Gypsy and Traveller communities

Lord Greenhalgh, Communities Minister, has written to local authority chief executives to highlight the support needed by some members of Gypsy and Traveller communities that are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.

Greater support for legal advice

The government has announced £5.4 million to support greater access to legal advice around housing, debt, discrimination and employment problems at this time.

Public Health England priorities

The Public Health Minister Jo Churchill has written to Duncan Selbie, Chief Executive of PHE, confirming PHE's role and priorities for the financial year 2020 to 2021. 

Policing powers

The College of Policing has produced a useful updated briefing on the new powers introduced by Health protection Regulations. 

COVID-19 and charities

The House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has produced a report on the Covid-19 crisis and charities. 

Isolation exacerbating psychosis 

A consultant psychiatrist outlines how psychiatric care has been disrupted due to the crisis.

Mind online resources

Mind, alongside others, launched Our Frontline, a combination of 1-2-1 support and online resources for NHS workers, carers, the Blue Light emergency services and key workers who are putting their mental health under pressure

Collective Voice News

Collective Voice has relaunched the Slack Community "Making a Difference Together" for colleagues interested in closer collaboration for people experiencing drug and alcohol problems.

Civil Society 

Civil Society has collated a list of some of the funding being made available for charities during the COVID-19 emergency.

Charity Excellence Framework

CEF have created a free Covid-19 searchable funder database along with assessment and toolkits.

FEANTSA will be holding short webinars on Wednesday mornings at 9am related to ongoing practice development and learning.

Homeless Link are holding weekly webinars on Wednesdays to keep the sector updated.
