Quick Notes from the PTA Board

Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you VES moms for all that you do. Have a wonderful day. :-)

As we wind down to the last few weeks of the school year, keep an eye out for posts coming soon on open volunteer positions for the 2020-21 school year.

Another round of heartfelt thanks to parents who kindly donated in the last few weeks to the gift card drive for VES families in need. We truly appreciate your generosity!

VES Wine Out is Virtual & Ordering Ends Today!

The annual VES Wine Out has gone VIRTUAL!! We are so sad we had to cancel our annual event and online auction. It’s always so much fun to catch up with our fellow Viking parents for some friendly competitive bidding on all the awesome items donated by our community businesses. But thanks to the generosity of our Wine Out partner, the Vienna Vintner, we moved our event…  CURBSIDE.

From 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. today, May 10th, you can call the Vienna Vintner (703-242-9463) to order your wine and they will donate 20% of the proceeds to the Vienna Elementary School PTA. Just say you’re buying on behalf of VES or VES Wine Out. You can pay over the phone and show up at the Vienna Vintner for contactless curbside delivery. It’s that easy! But hurry, because today is the last day to order and have 20% of the proceeds benefit VES. Please note that the Vintner can not offer case discounts on top of the donation to the PTA.

We are so thankful for all our donors, partners and volunteers over the years, and hope to be back with a big event in 2021!

Dining for Dollars Updates

Rita's of Vienna *CANCELED*: After much consideration, we have decided that we must cancel the Rita's event in order to keep our families and community safe. Thank you to the Dining for Dollars committee, Alison French and Kinny Mu, as well the management of Rita's of Vienna, for working so diligently on this event.

Casual Pint on May 31st: The Casual Pint is a VES-family owned pub in Falls Church. The VES community is invited to order take-out on Sunday, May 31st, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. The Casual Pint is located at 6410 Arlington Blvd, Falls Church - about a 15-minute drive - and features a kid-friendly menu and great food for the grown-ups! Show the attached flyer and The Casual Pint will donate 20% of profits back to the VES PTA.

VES Rock Star Volunteers

With the end of the school year fast approaching we’d like to continue recognizing the many PTA volunteers who we consider Rock Stars:

Peggy Morrison and Michelle Small: Peggy and Michelle are co-chairs of the 5k/Fun Run, a longtime favorite event for the VES community. Even though the 5k was canceled last month, Michelle and Peggy have clocked in countless hours organizing, coordinating, and collecting donations.

In addition to her 5k duties, Peggy is also the chair of the Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad breakfast events. At the beginning of the school year -- and without hesitation -- Peggy graciously volunteered to take on all of these committees. Each event took careful planning and organization, and in the case of the breakfast events involved *extremely early* mornings. Lastly, Peggy is one of the fearless Cub Scout Leaders for Troop 152, which includes dozens of VES students. She coordinates all the Troop’s events and activities, keeping Cub Scouts active in the Vienna community.

We appreciate both of you and are grateful for all the time and hard work you put into these committees to help make our VES community a fun place to be. Thank you!

The amazing Great Art Chairs, Rebecca Johnson Zara, Jennifer Adams and Carol Ann Garner: They worked tirelessly last summer and throughout the school year to transition from the old, discontinued “Grace Art” program to our new “Great Art” program. Each month they developed a new lesson, which they then taught to parent volunteers who executed the lessons for students at all grade levels. These lessons introduced students to new artists and different forms of art and exposed them to art around our community and throughout the world. VES students are so fortunate that these volunteers kept this wonderful art program going at our school. Thank you Rebecca, Carol Ann, and Jenn!

 GoFundMe for Ms. Ochs

Sixth grade teacher Gabrielle Ochs was hospitalized in late March and is still in the hospital recovering. A parent of a sixth-grade student kindly set up a GoFundMe page to help Ms. Ochs and her family during this difficult time. Please consider donating.

Update on 5K Refunds

The 5k/Fun Run committee chairs are working with the race management company to complete refunds for race registrants. They will contact you directly soon with details.

PTA Reimbursements

Please submit reimbursement requests to the PTA by mid-May by completing and emailing this form to president@ves-pta.org and treasurer@ves-pta.org
