Meet the Parents Lockdown Newsletter
Uncertainty reigns as we send you this, our first newsletter of the summer term. Not that it feels like a summer term for anyone having to get their heads round home-learning. Never have we felt so in awe of teachers. We thought we would devote this newsletter to the various ways in which the lockdown is affecting education.
Tell Your Story to the Education Select Committee
The cross-party Commons Education Select Committee is calling for evidence on how COVID -19 is impacting everyone involved in education. That means families, teachers, children’s services, you name it. The deadline for submissions is May 31st. You can submit your comments here:

Inequality Laid Bare
One of the most obvious effects of the lockdown is to reveal the hugely unlevel playing field regarding access to computers at home. With most state schools asking children to find online resources, that leaves families without internet access at a massive disadvantage. Camden council, for example, has launched a scheme to encourage local companies (with Google being one of them) to give laptops. If you know anyone who can help, please get in touch with the council.

Private Schools feel the Pressure
Lockdown is clearly impacting the economy, and not just those with least resources. Private schools are anticipating a fall in admissions in September as some families find themselves unable to commit to school fees.

Above and beyond the financial considerations around going private, we found this excellent long read on the arguments for private school reform. It’s from a new think tank set up to examine this issue.

That’s it from us for now. Wishing you all the very best in these challenging times.

Stay safe – and stay sane!
