Yvonne Did That!

Yvonne Orji's HBO comedy special looks like it's gonna be a whole bag of fun! It premieres on 6th June and MY PEOPLE! We need to find a way to watch it.

Verzuz

Jill & Erykah broke Instagram. I can't quite put the experience into words but it was a super nostalgic moment in time for me. Again, pele if you missed it. Check out the playlist >>.

Hair Nah

This simple yet hilarious game was made for black women who are tired of certain people reaching for their hair without asking first. I plan to play it on a large monitor when I'm back in an office environment (which won't be anytime soon if I get my way). Play about >>

Loud Black Girls

From the authors of 'Slay in your Lane' - being a loud black girl is not about the volume of your voice. Most of the time it’s simply existing as your authentic self in a world that is constantly trying to tell you to minimise who you are. Pre-order >> the anthology from the voices of twenty established and emerging black British writers come out on 1st October.

4C Hair?

The under representation of dark skin women with prominent facial features and 4C hair, is an issue close to my heart. Enter @TownHeroine & detangled_hair who are tackling one of these 3 aspects. In their efforts to redress the imbalance, they'll be hosting a focus group via Zoom to hear about your 4C hair experiences and your perception of your hair. ⁣⁣So if you have 4C hair and are interested in taking part in the focus group, just ping an email to info@detangled-hair.com and they’ll get back to you with further details.

It's not all fun & games...

Justice for Belly Mujinga. This petition exists to help find and prosecute the individual who spat on Belly Mujinga while she was working at London Victoria. The culprit was infected with COVID-19 and told her so. Belly later became symptomatic and died of COVID-19. This cruel and senseless act of unprovoked violence ultimately led to her ultimately death. Please sign the petition and ask your friends to do the same.

There's another pandemic going on and it's been happening for hundreds of years. Black people being murdered by racist police officers, overzealous vigilante types, amateur sleuths and yes, everyday bigots who don’t want us around...

by now you've probably heard about the death of Ahmaud Aubrey, the 25 year old man who while taking a leisurely jog ended up being gunned-down for no plausible reason by two ex-police officers. His murderers weren’t even arrested until an entire 2 month period had passed. Video footage of the murder taking place later emerged and the cold-blooded killers were both arrested due to public outcry.  Kirk Franklin and Amanda Seales spoke unapologetically and passionately about the situation.

Boris Johnson has been called to launch an independent public inquiry into how and why COVID-19 death rates differ so starkly by ethnicity. The disproportionate impact coronavirus has had on the UK’s black and minority ethnic communities must be investigated, campaigners have said in a letter to the prime minister. The letter has more than 50 signatories – including celebrities, medics, council, unions and church leaders. Have a read. Can you believe they weren't initially tracking BAME numbers in the first instance? Scandalous.

In the past few days we've said goodbye to notables - Ty, Little Richard, Betty Wright and Andre Harrell. May their souls rest in perfect peace.
